The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis (http://benhooks.memphis.edu) is recruiting adults to attend the workshop, Common Cents: A Personal Money Management Workshop developed and taught by The RISE (Responsibility, Initiative, Solutions, and Empowerment) Foundation. Registrants will be notified of the specific room location one week prior to the first class. Classes meet one hour each week for six weeks.
The Hooks Institute’s mission includes preserving the history of the American Civil Rights Movement and social, economic and health justice. RISE is an organization whose mission is to empower low-income residents of Memphis and Shelby County to build and sustain assets. The Hooks Institute and RISE have partnered to bring this course to Memphis residents.
The Common Cents workshop includes modules on:

2) Laying the Foundation with a Spending Plan

The $3,000 can be used for a down payment on a home by a first-time homeowner, for a car, or to purchase a personal computer. RISE has specific qualifying criteria including income restrictions for SAVE UP.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to evaluate their spending, budgeting and other financial habits and to begin saving.
