 JOB TITLE:            Lead Specialist, Communications and Public Relations

Duties:                        Train/direct and perform activities in an assigned area of the Communications and Public Relations Department which include internal/external communications, community relations, and media relations in order to promote customers’ awareness of Division services and to keep employees informed of Division activities.

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations or related field.  Must have a minimum of 2-4 years professional-level experience in developing, implementing and conducting public relations/community relations and employee communication programs.  May require a thorough knowledge of governmental low-income programs and fundraising depending on assigned area. 

Works majority of the time in office.     

Candidates accepting Employment with MLGW must live and maintain their residence within the boundaries of memphis, tennessee within six months of their employment date.

Barron Heights Transitional Center

has  immediate openings for:

Lead Cook

Position Status:  Full-time (40 hours/week)

Duties:  Plan and prepare menu, order supplies and stock them on shelves, keep records  and accounts, price items on menu, clean food preparation equipment and work  areas

Qualifications:  High School Diploma. Basic communication skills.  Ability to perform  manual labor (up to 25 lbs).  Able to stand for long periods of time.  Able   to work in cold/hot environments.  One year cook experience preferred.

Night Monitor 

Position Status:  Part-time (16 hours/week)

Duties:  Guard, patrol, or monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, and/or infractions  of rules.

Qualifications:  High School Diploma. Training or experience in working with the homeless and/or displaced persons with multiple issues.  Must have   progressive experience working with individuals in an ambulatory or   residential setting.

 Position Status:  Full-time (40 hours/week)

Duties:  Providing transportation for clients, maintaining a transportation log to track  mileage, checking van daily to ensure proper functioning/operation. 

Qualifications:  High School Diploma.  Must maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’sLicense.   Training or experience in working with the homeless and/or  displaced persons with multiple issues.  Must have progressive  experience working with individuals in an ambulatory or   residential setting (optional).

Van Driver    

Position Status:  Full-time (40 hours/week)

Job Opening at MCIL for PT Project Coordinator

Job Title: Project Coordinator (Part-Time) for Next Chapter Book Club

Agency: Memphis Center for Independent Living

Reports to: Project Director

Summary

The Memphis Center for Independent Living (MCIL) is a community-based not for profit organization whose primary mission is to facilitate the full integration of persons with disabilities into all aspects of community life.  MCIL will bring over 25 years of experience to the project in providing resource information, personal and technical support and advocacy to persons with disabilities who want to improve the quality of their lives.  The Center supports personal choices in decisions making and self-directed lives for all individuals with disabilities. The focus of this position will include coordinating and managing three book clubs for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Job Description

  • The Project Coordinator will monitor and support volunteer facilitators on a weekly basis.
  • The Project Coordinator will visit each book club in order to ensure that the book club sites are providing adequate space and comfort for participants. 
  • The coordinator will monitor and assess the volunteer facilitator’s skills and abilities. 
  • When appropriate, the Project Coordinator will offer impromptu support and guidance to the volunteers.
  • Weekly meetings will provide the Project Coordinator and volunteer facilitators an opportunity to discuss any problems/issues that may arise in the individual book clubs and to address any problems with individual participants or volunteer facilitators that require additional training.
  • The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Project Director to design project calendars that will be provided to all project staff and volunteer facilitators. Calendar information will include: tentative book club weekly meeting dates, dates for weekly mini-reports from volunteer coordinators via telephone, tentative dates for potluck lunches/dinners, a monthly council conference calls and due dates for quarterly and annual program evaluation reports. Calendar changes and updates will be the project coordinator’s responsibility.
  • Participate in a period of orientation and training
  • Recruit diverse group of young adults from the community as facilitators
  • Host information meetings where people can get information about the program
  • Coordinate monthly correspondence to facilitators
  • In consultation with the Project Director to establish and implement a system for measuring outcomes.
  • Complete forms and documentation required within the timelines established
  • Work a flexible schedule so that services are available to young adults based on their schedules
  • Participate in agency staff meetings and trainings
  • Seek out community resources and speakers for some book club meetings
  • Report significant incidents or events to the Project Director immediately
  • Maintain confidential files
  • Participate in periodic supervision with the Project Director
  • Develop appropriate relationships with young adults, team members and community at large
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Display patience, compassion and understanding
  • Have A love of reading
  • Display management skills to facilitate small groups

Education Consultant (II)

CAC Education Consultants provide group training and individual consultation to primarily adult audiences toward prevention of child sexual abuse and appropriate reporting. Education Consultants are Community Awareness Team members and engage in activities toward general community awareness about the CAC and the issue of child sexual abuse.

 

  • Provide training to adults on sexual abuse prevention using the Darkness to Light Stewards of Children model.
  • Provide training primarily to adults, and to some select child audiences, using Project Be Safe curriculum. (Training for parents is generally focused on child sexual abuse; training for child-serving professionals encompasses both sexual and physical abuse).
  • Promote and provide expert consultation to child-serving professionals and other community members on case-specific scenarios and on best practice policy, toward prevention, appropriate reporting and intervention.
  • Develop marketing strategy for education to include direct community outreach, interactive and online marketing. Work closely with Community Relations Associate, Education Consultant, other Community Awareness Team members, and volunteer Ambassadors to implement.
  • Develop and implement a specific strategy to reach target audiences with Stewards of Children training.
  • Reach out to new and necessary partners to create a network to provide training to adults, including training proposals/agreements for partnering organizations.
  • Initiate proactive relationship building to leverage CAC contacts to meet education goals.
  • Conduct systematic outreach to CAC corporate contacts to generate opportunities for parent trainings within the workplace.
  • Work with Community Awareness Team on campaigns and events including Child Abuse Prevention Month and Children’s Memorial Flag Raisings; serve as lead staff on some activities.
  • Evaluate and expand partnerships with pediatricians/family practice physicians toward reaching parents with educational information.
  • Develop and provide customized trainings tailored to the needs of various target audiences.
  • Serve as one of the CAC’s media spokespeople on education/prevention topics.
  • Participate in targeted community expos/exhibits.
  • Participate in proposal development and meetings with potential education program funders.
  • Provide public awareness presentations and agency tours for community groups.
  • Be a positive participant in Community Awareness Team, Education Services, and agency-wide activities.
  • As this program develops, there will be changes in specific duties but always in alliance with the CAC vision and the strategic plan.

 

Supervision received from:  Associate Director

Position Requirements: Bachelors degree, preferably in Social Work, Sociology or Psychology, or Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations. Experience in the field of child abuse preferred. Polished, effective communicator, verbal and written. Public speaking experience is a must, preferably in the context of providing adult education/training. Sales/marketing experience a plus. Willingness to perform a variety of tasks ranging from administrative to leadership roles. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Graphic design skills a plus. Must be available for evening and weekend presentations as requested. Must have a car and valid driver’s license. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
