The City of Memphis’ Youth Ambassador Program for Memphis high school students, is seeking around 250 new students entering the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to apply for their year round enrichment program.

Position Purpose

  • Manage, writes, and edits the Grizzlies Annual Report.

  • Serve as primary contact for  local school systems.
  • Other related duties as required.

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in a related field.
  • 1 – 2 years of experience in  creating and managing community programs and special events.
  • Proficiency with MS Word,  Excel, Outlook and the internet.
  • Knowledge of professional  sports and sports philanthropy preferred.
  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and development.
  • Familiarity of charitable  programs, initiatives, outreach and organizations in the Greater Memphis and Shelby County area.
  • Coordinate Grizzlies Black History Month in arena recognitions.
  • Ability to produce creative and  relevant written materials for a variety of publications.
  • Ability to build relationships  in order to develop and mentor personnel.
  • Excellent people skills with  the ability to interact with all types of people, including staff and  management, professional and elite athletes, members of media, senior  government officials and corporate representatives and children.
  • Excellent oral and written  communication skills required.
  • Ability to balance major  priorities on a daily basis.

The Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in partnership with the Delta Boulé of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc. are embarking on a significant program within the Memphis community. As charged by our National Office, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Memphis Alumnae is developing programming to address the male crisis that is impacting our youth. In that vein, our chapter is planning three mini-conferences aimed at supporting the work of male organizations within the city of Memphis. These events will occur in March 2011, October 2011, and March 2012.

 EMBODI March 2012 Spring Conference Registration Packet

MCS Career & College EXPO – Feb 23-24, 8:30am to 1:30pm

On Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24, more than 6,000 high school students will attend the 4th Annual Career & College EXPO led by Memphis City Schools.  Held at the Cook Convention Center, the EXPO will assemble – under one roof – educational institutions, businesses, organizations, career centers, branches of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and health care professionals who will connect MCS students with career and college opportunities.  From 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day, students will network with college advisors, financial aid experts and employment recruiters.

The 2012 EXPO kicks-off with its first parent reception on Wednesday, February 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. While open to all parents, organizers especially encourage parents of eighth-graders to attend in order to inform them early of new programs that prepare students for specific careers. These include the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program, Memphis Health Careers Academy, and the soon to be launched Transportation and Logistics program.  Parents will be able to collaborate with MCS teachers, counselors and administrators, community leaders and other parents, as well as with members of the 2013 school merger Transition Planning Commission.

The EXPO helps youth to explore employment options, develop career-readiness skills, and discuss post-secondary education opportunities. Over the years, it has opened doors for many students through job interviews, apprenticeships, college placement and financial aid assistance. 

Confirmed 2012 EXPO exhibitors include Nucor Steel, Memphis Light, Gas and Water, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Dillard University, Bethune-Cookman University, LeMoyne-Owen College, Southwest Tennessee Community College, Remington College, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and many more.
