Financial Literacy Workshop @ Parkway Village Library 5/22/12

Cathy Faust, Shelby County Extension Director, is the presenter for the “Mastering Your Finances/Building Wealth” workshop offered at the Parkway Village Memphis Public Library & Information Center branch on Tuesday, May 22 at 1 pm. Faust will show attendees ways to make their money stretch when it’s “Too much Month at the end of your Money.”

The workshop is part of the UT Shelby County Extension services to Tennesseans to help improve the quality of life. UT Extension offers a host of programs to Tennesseans from increasing urbanization to increasing concern for environmental sustainability.

“Getting Ahead Classes” by Oasis of Hope @ Bickford CC

Oasis of Hope is offering a “Getting Ahead in A Just Getting by World” course.

These classes derived from the Bridges out of Poverty materials, are designed to help participants examine the effects of poverty on their lives and in their community.

It also gives information on how to use the resources you currently have to go the next level in your life.

Topics include:

- How to build economic stability for you & your family
- How to set personal goals and successfully achieve them
- How to make small positive changes that will have a big impact.

Free On-Site Document Shredding and Identity Theft Prevention Tips 

Did you know that protecting your identity is largely in your own hands? So here’s the first rule: If you don’t need it, destroy it - responsibly. The BBB is here to help.

Come participant in the BBB’s Protect Your Identity Week free document shredding event!  Pull out those old bills, credit card records and other personal paperwork you no longer need and let us destroy them for you at no cost.  You don’t even have to get out of your car!

This year we will also be collecting old, unwanted cell phones for recycling. Bring your old cell phones for donation to 911cellphonebank.org. Working phones will be used in the 911 emergency cell phone program, while non-working models will be responsibly recycled.

What: Free on-the-spot document shredding plus tips and resources for protecting your identity

When: Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 9:00 am – noon

Where: University of Memphis parking lot on Poplar Avenue, just east of Highland St.

How: Bring up to 10 boxes or bags of documents to be shredded and take home the tips and resources you need to help protect yourself. Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders, but staples and paper clips are okay to be shredded.
