The Mid-South Teen Volunteer EXPO gives teens the opportunity to connect with local non-profit agencies who are seeking teen volunteers to serve at their agency. Teens, this is a perfect way to spend your summer making an impact in your community. As a Mid-South Teen Summer Volunteer, you would have the opportunity to volunteer at variety of agencies addressing different social issues such as hunger, animals, arts, seniors and more. There are numerous opportunities for you to choose!

“Getting Ahead Classes” by Oasis of Hope @ Bickford CC

Oasis of Hope is offering a “Getting Ahead in A Just Getting by World” course.

These classes derived from the Bridges out of Poverty materials, are designed to help participants examine the effects of poverty on their lives and in their community.

It also gives information on how to use the resources you currently have to go the next level in your life.

Topics include:

- How to build economic stability for you & your family
- How to set personal goals and successfully achieve them
- How to make small positive changes that will have a big impact.

Paid Volunteer Opportunities

Girl Scouts Heart of the South is partnering with AmeriCorps National Program to offer two great paid volunteer opportunities in the Memphis area for the 2012-2013 membership year.  There are two year- long assignments available.

Position Requirements:

  • Assisting current staff with developing recruitment and retention methods
  • Expanding current community partnerships that will help increase and sustain Girl Scout membership.
  • Support members recruited through the outreach program by implementing product sales to fund activities.
  • Help recruit and support volunteers during membership summer initiatives.
  • Creating and implementing a system for recruiting adult and teen volunteers to enhance and sustain programs in underserved areas.
  • Assisting program department with Girl Scout program development and implementation.
  • Identifying strategies to improve effectiveness and efficiency data entry process for new members

Qualification Requirements:                                              

  • Recognize and believe in the self-worth and potential of girls
  • Bring high energy, vitality and enthusiasm while enabling group cooperation and fostering group cohesiveness
  • Ability to take the initiative, and to implement short and long range plans concurrently, and to work with minimum direct supervision
  • Well organized with the ability to shift priorities in response to changing needs and adjust work to accommodate shifts in organizational priorities
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, and some evenings; able to provide own transportation
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage through the council’s business auto insurance carrier

All candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED and the candidate must also possess excellent time management and good organizational skills.  Ability to work a flexible work schedule when necessary is also required.  This is a 12 month-volunteer position that comes with several perks: monthly stipend, healthcare benefits for qualifying families, childcare benefits for up to four children choice of $1500 cash stipend or $5350 education award at completion of assignment.

Due to the time needed to complete the program, we ask that AmeriCorps Volunteers have graduated from school.

JOB SUMMARY:

Rings bells for The Salvation Army Christmas Program at assigned locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.
