Internship Program for Diverse Groups (STIPDG)

Internship Period: June 4th – August 10th 2012

The Summer Transportation Internship Program for Diverse Groups (STIPDG) provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable professional experience and skills that will compliment your academic pursuits. This hands-on program is designed to mentor and cultivate tomorrow’s leaders, strengthen their understanding of the transportation industry and prepare them for future public service opportunities.

The STIPDG Program is open to all qualified candidates without regard to their race, gender, color, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic prohibited by federal law.

Position:   Medical Assistant I            Date of Posting:  11/6/11

Work Area:  Clinic


Position Summary:

The ChurchHealthCenterhas an opening for a full time Medical Assistant in its Primary Care Clinic.  The overall purpose of the Medical Assistant is to provide direct patient care by conducting initial patient screenings and providing assistance to clinic physicians as directed.  This position is best suited to those applicants with experience working in a high volume fast paced environment.  Time management skills are essential to facilitate an efficient flow of patients in the clinic with respect to physician schedule.

Essential Functions:

The Medical Assistant will perform a variety of tasks that can include:

            -Initial patient screening (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height, etc.)

            -Perform lab tests of patient samples (blood, etc.) and diagnostic testing as directed by physician

            -Assume responsibility of programs related to acute care services, women’s services,

             Immunizations, insulin instruction, etc

Education/Experience Requirements:

The following is required:

            -A high school diploma or GED

            -Certification from an approved Medical Assisting program

            -A minimum of two years continuous experience as a Medical Assistant  

Special Skills & Knowledge:

To perform this job successfully, candidate should have the following:

            -Good computer skills

            -Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

            -Ability to properly utilize time management skills and prioritize tasks

            -Have a good working knowledge of lab procedures and diagnostic testing

            – X-ray/Casting certification is strongly preferred for this position

            -Attention to detail and high level accuracy in relation to assessment, distribution of medication, and test administration

            -Willingness to assist other staff members with duties when needed to maintain efficiency of clinic operations

Position: Registered Nurse                                                         Date of Posting:  11/03/2011

Work Area:  Church Health Center -Clinic

Position Summary:

The ChurchHealthCenterhas an opening for a fulltime Registered Nurse (RN) in its Primary Clinic. The overall purpose of this job is to provide the highest quality care and best experience for the patient.  This individual will assist in overseeing the work of ancillary personnel; establish and apply standards of care and practices for the clinic; plan and facilitate the patient flow process; help ensure adequate staffing of clinic personnel; and provide direct patient care.

Essential Functions:

The RN has a variety of responsibilities as listed above and may include:

–   Help direct patient care and assist providers

–  As directed by providers(s) dispenses medication, perform tests (lab, EKG, pulmonary, treatments),

–  Contact patient with test results and/or treatment plan changes

–  Provide assistance to the medical team in management of the day’s patient schedule and team

floor schedule

–  Use decision making skills based on nursing knowledge to help resolve patient or provider related issues, phone calls, or provided/staff requests (all within provider guidelines)

–  Identifies the need for patient education as directed by the provider

–  Encourages patient participation inWellnessprograms (Commit to Quit, DiabetesWellness, etc) and discuss Model for Healthy Living

–  Assist team to provide most efficient high quality care to patients

–  Participate in performance reviews of MA’s and CA’s and others as assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:

Qualified candidate will have:

–     Graduated from approved school of nursing with RN licensure in state of TN

–     Bachelor’s Degree is preferred- at minimum an Associate’s Degree or Nursing diploma

–     Two to three years RN experience plus (Prefer experience in specialty such as women’s,  


Special Skills & Knowledge:

To expertly perform this job, the following skills are necessary:

–          Knowledge of standard nursing procedures

–          Good interpersonal and communication skills to impart knowledge/resources to patients

–          Second language is a plus

–          Strong management skills (inclusive of the ability to train, motivate, assess, and evaluate staff when requested)
