ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Works under the direction of an assigned supervisor.  Post and balances subsidiary ledger(s): such as accounts payable and receivable to manual or automated system.  Examines and codes invoices or vouchers for proper accounting distribution.  Assists in preparing, adjusting and closing journal entries; prepares and balances figures used in budget process.  Prepares complex expenditure reports and keeps complete records of financial transactions. Verifies that transactions are properly documented, prepared in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures and classified and recorded according to specified standards.  Reconciles financial data and reports in Oracle Financial System and verifies availability of funds. Prepares basic financial statements; Reviews records to determine causes of results shown in reports where research and judgment may be required.  Handles requests for information by phone or in person.  Operates basic office machines such as typewriter, calculator, personal computer, etc.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must have working knowledge of applicable computer software; Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures and principles;  Ability to keep a complete set of ledgers and financial records; Ability to use judgment on complex financial matters; Ability to research complex financial materials in order to prepare reports; Ability to operate basic office machines such as typewriter, calculator, personal computer utilizing various software packages, etc.; Ability to deal with public and co-workers with courtesy and tact.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the general supervision of the Manager, Material Services in Fire Services Division: Prepares and sews protective covers for fire truck equipment; mends and repairs fire fighting clothing, hoses and various equipment; receives, issues and stores supplies, fire fighting clothing and hoses; picks up and delivers linen, furniture, furnishings, fire fighting accessories; trains and guides new personnel in the proper procedures for receiving, issuing, storing, inventories and delivering equipment and supplies.  May be assigned to a remote location in the Unit Room at Apparatus Maintenance performing duties without direct supervision including stocking, inventorying, light cleaning, and maintaining inventory records and reports for reserve units.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.  Requires the ability to operate equipment such as CRT computer, forklift, pallet-jack, ladders, commercial sewing machine. Requires the ability to lift and carry various fire materials weighing up to 100 lbs. and maneuver including stooping, bending, reaching above head, and climbing a ladder. Involves contact with staff and Fire personnel.


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in a warehouse setting that may or may not be climate-controlled. There may be extreme environmental conditions that include heat, cold, noise, and exposure to some industrial chemicals. Work duties will also require that personnel will have to work outside in environmental elements while delivering and inventorying equipment. Job requires independent travel to various worksites to deliver materials and supplies.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High School graduate or equivalent and one (1) year experience sewing heavy materials such as canvas and/or vinyl; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the direction of the Police Grants Manager in the Police Services’ Grant Management Office.  Monitors and coordinates the progress of grant activity within the Police Services Division and prepares reports of activity status including developing city, state, and federal grants and interpreting grant requirements and guidelines; conducts periodic reviews of grant administration procedures and recommends improvements; forecasts budget expenditures and analyzes trends in allocation of funds; and may initiate special projects or studies related to grant projects.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.  Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in an office environment.  Some travel within and periodically outside the city is required.         

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a closely related field and three (3) years experience in grant research and administration; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have specific experience using Microsoft office Suite and the Internet.  Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license.  Related Master’s degree is preferred.  (Proof of Education/Driver’s License Required)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the general supervision of the Manager – Operation of City Hall in the General Services Division.  Operates and maintains all heating and cooling equipment in City Hall which includes the repair and replacement of pumps, valves, motors and any other building equipment; maintains repairs on all HVAC equipment; makes maintenance and emergency calls; responsible for the smooth operation of the building (City Hall) and equipment; supervises night watchmen and janitorial personnel.


1.  Responds to emergency calls in the City Hall building.

2.  Acts as liaison between janitorial services and the building engineer.

3.  Maintains chemical system for water treatment.

4.  Monitors dry valve systems at other city facilities.

5.  Oversees the garage parking during off shifts or special events.

6.  Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned from time to time.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the use of equipment, such as folding ladders and/or straight ladders; lifting valves, pumps and other mechanical equipment; ability to close large valves; works over, under and around mechanical equipment and piping in order to perform general maintenance; operates boilers, chillers, fans, pneumatic control valves, motors and other building equipment.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed throughout the City Hall facility under normal maintenance conditions; involves contact with different staff levels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Valid First-Class Steam & Refrigeration Operator’s license: Three (3) years experience operating and maintaining electrical and/or boilers of 150 H. P. and chillers in excess of 400 tons.  Some background in building maintenance or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to work rotating shifts.




ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the supervision of the Chemist at a wastewater treatment plant.  Provides technical assistance to Plant Chemist and assistant chemists in performing analyses related to sewage treatment and industrial wastes:  Performs standardized testing and calibrates instruments; conducts analysis on various liquid, solid, and gaseous samples which includes sample receiving, logging of sample description, sample preparation, application of written physical and chemical procedures, mathematical calculations, and reporting of results; collects well, soil, landfill and stream samples, using dipper, bottle, or hand pump; uses analytical instruments; and cleans laboratory equipment such as glassware and sample containers.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Requires manual dexterity to use laboratory and sampling equipment.  Requires the ability to identify colors.  Requires ability to lift approx. 40 lbs. and to assist in lifting compressed gas cylinders (approx. 150 lbs.).


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in a typical laboratory environment using conventional equipment as well as electronic instruments.  Exposed to chemicals and cleaning solvents.  Some outdoor work is required in collecting samples.  Exposed to various weather conditions, fumes, odors, and noise.  Requires the use and wear of protective gear when necessary.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate with chemistry course work desirable; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform essential job functions.  Must be familiar with laboratory equipment and be able to perform high school algebra.  Experience in laboratory testing preferred.  Must have a valid TN driver’s license.   (Proof of Driver’s License Required)

Duties:                        Set-up, adjust and operate offset presses, graphics art process camera, copier and inserter machines; receive, prepare for copying e-mailed documents, utility bills and other documents utilizing high speed computerized copiers; prepare layouts and operate various auxiliary machines.

Must have knowledge of precision measurement.  Must successfully complete Color Blind II Test.  Must successfully complete Placement (Group 009 “Instrument Mechanics I”)/ Performance Exercises.  Must have knowledge/skills in Offset Press Operations.  Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works in Print Shop.  Subject to hazards of machine operation, noise, paper dust and chemicals.  Performs physical activities such as heavy lifting/ carrying, climbing, reaching, standing for extended periods, bending and stooping.  Shift work required.

City of Memphis Innovation Delivery Team

Earlier this year, the City of Memphis was selected by Bloomberg Philanthropies as one of five cities nationwide to receive an Innovation Delivery Team grant.  The three-year grant represents one of the largest private-sector commitments to social innovation in our nation’s history.  The grant will fund local teams, housed within the Mayor’s Office, charged with developing effective solutions to some of the city’s most pressing challenges.  In Memphis, the team is charged with reducing incidences of handgun violence, particularly among juveniles, and supporting small business growth in core city neighborhoods.

  • Handle special projects as necessary including waxing floors, shampooing carpets, etc.
  • Maintain the exterior of the building including cutting grass and shrubs, removal of trash, etc. Remove trash in accordance with established procedures Help to maintain a pest-free environment by checking and replacing pest control devices, checking and properly positioning rodent traps, maintaining accurate pest control logs.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms and other common areas.
  • Maintain working relationships that ensure the success of Food Bank programs.  This includes maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with donors, volunteers, agency representatives, Food Bank management and staff
