The Friends For Life Corporation Advocacy Academy Coordinator will coordinate the delivery of a regional HIV/AIDS advocacy network. This project will include persons living with HIV/AIDS seeking to educate Memphis and Shelby County elected officials, policy makers and community members including leaders of the faith community about HIV/AIDS and the various needs that characterize people about the disease.
Essential Job Functions
Plan, coordinate and implement activities of the Advocacy Academy in accordance with work plans developed and approved by the Director of Wellness Program. Monitoring and evaluate the functions of the Advocacy Academy. Market all components of the Advocacy Academy to potential participants and community partners. Assist in the recruitment process. Attend local council meetings. Prepare reporting when necessary. Alert the Director of Wellness Program when state legislation is proposed that would benefit or detract from the Advocacy Academy’s goals. Create and accept opportunities to increase awareness of the Advocacy Academy. Communicate effectively with facilitators, public officials, policy makers, funding entities and leaders of the faith based community. Work in conjunction with the Wellness Program. Maintain data in CareWare. Ensure monthly schedule of all activities.

Bachelor’s Degree preferred in public policy, public health, or social work or equivalent work experience. Experience coordinating coalitions or working groups seeking to impact public policy; experience with health policy, health care issues and the health care delivery system is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write clearly and effectively for a wide range of audiences, to speak before groups and with legislators, members of the press and the public. Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage various complex projects simultaneously. Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of people. Commitment to social justice in general. Excellent communication skills.
The ability to work well in a fast pace and growing environment. Regular and predictable attendance is necessary. Maintain confidential information and adhere to all policies and procedures regarding Protected Health Information(PHI)
Extended periods of sitting and walking. Ability to life and carry 20-25 lbs. Ability to climb stairs.
