POSITION:     WATER TREATMENT PLANT CHEMIST – (1 Opening)  SALARY:  $42,120.00 – $64,022.40  BI-WEEKLY:  $1,620.00 – $2,462.40.00      Public Works/Stiles/North Plant     J.O. #13-161


JOB SUMMARY:  Works under the direction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant manager or assigned manager.   Plans and directs activities of the laboratory in the waste treatment plant to determine efficiency of plant processes and to ensure that plant effluent meet regulatory requirements.  Supervises lower level chemist and technicians by providing work direction, assignment of duties, training, and discipline; reviews reports and testing data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.  Identifies problems and supervises corrective action.  Develops new or modifies existing procedures for use of equipment and analyzing samples.  Conducts laboratory analysis requiring advanced training and significant data interpretation.  Ensures that appropriate safety procedures are applied relative to laboratory equipment and materials.  Prepares reports and technical papers.  Interprets results of laboratory activities and provides technical advice and counsel to management and other professionals.  Monitors laboratory expenditures and prepares bid and contract specifications.  Maintains supplies through inventory and purchasing procedures; and monitors and records employee attendance.  Updates and monitors the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) by accurately tracking and maintaining data throughout the testing lifecycle and ensuring scheduled testing is initiated within the test period.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Requires manual dexterity to use laboratory equipment and ability to operate personal computer.  Must be able to identify colors and distinguish odors.  Requires ability to communicate with staff, management, sales representatives, and federal and state agencies.


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in an office or laboratory setting.  May be exposed to chemicals and cleaning solvents.  Requires the use and wear of protective gear when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelors degree in Chemistry or closely related field and four (4) years experience in applying chemical analytical techniques with two (2) of the four (4) years supervising laboratory activities; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.




POSITION:     MAINTENANCE FOREMAN – (1 Opening)  ANNUAL SALARY:  $31,220.80  – $46,508.80;  BI-WEEKLY:  $1,200.80 – $1,788.80     Public Works/Street Maintenance/Asphalt         J.O. #13-160


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the general supervision of a field supervisor in the Public Works Division.  Directs a small crew responsible for repairing and maintaining storm drains, inlets and other structures relating to drain maintenance.  Instructs crew on how to complete assignment, what equipment and materials to use.  Drives truck to haul crew, materials and equipment.  Performs routine check of equipment, checks fluid, and fuels truck.  Maintains and keeps payroll time sheets.  Reviews work performance and recommends disciplinary action.  Communicates with residents regarding work being performed.  Uses mobile radio to communicate with supervisor and other workers.  Travels to various facilities to conduct on-site inspections.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires traversing on uneven ground lifting and carrying objects such as tools and power equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. as well as the handling of manhole covers and inlet grates (approximately 150 lbs.) with assistance. Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (including above head), standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.  Requires the ability to climb in and out of manholes, catch basins, culverts, and other confined related structures.  Requires the ability to operate assigned equipment.  Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.  Must be able to operate a computer and various office equipment.  Requires the use of mobile handheld radio and communication with personnel in the field.


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to odors, dust, inclement weather and traffic.  Frequently drives to various locations to inspect and monitor crews in the completion of working duties.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High school graduate and five (5) years’ experience in construction/repair of sewer/drain systems; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must possess and maintain a valid Class “B” Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver’s License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment.  Supervisory experience preferred.
