ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN REGISTER
JOB TITLE: ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN – J.O. #ACTReg2014
City of Memphis is now accepting applications for Animal Care Technician Hiring Register. Hiring Register ranking will be determined by lottery selection of those who meet the minimum qualifications. Vacancies may be filled from the established hiring register. Individuals appearing on the register will be subject to applicable background checks and a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies associated with the job. Register will be active from approximately 6 months to one year. Persons who are placed on the register will be notified prior to the expiration of the hiring register.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general direction of an assigned supervisor at the Memphis Animal Shelter to provide basic clerical support and routine care for sheltered animals, maintenance of the shelter, and service to customers. Cleans kennels, cages, and pens where animals are housed. Cleans and bathes animals as directed. Performs humane euthanasia. Records paperwork on diagnostic procedures performed, such as surgical procedures, health screening programs, etc. Inputs data of adopted animals, adopted returned animals, and animal impoundment into the computer system. Feeds, waters, and medicates animals. Assists in the training of new personnel by answering questions, demonstrating animal care techniques, and sharing knowledge of departmental policies. Assists the public in locating and redeeming lost pets and providing information on pet adoption and redemption procedures. Cleans and maintains shelter facilities using pressurized steam cleaning equipment and chemicals.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment, such as a computer and telephone. Also requires the ability to use equipment, such as hoses and ladders, to clean, lift, and handle incoming animals, such as dogs, cats, weighing up to 25 lbs. and 50 lbs. with assistance. Constant lifting, standing, and traversing shelter grounds required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an animal shelter environment. Frequent exposure to noise, fumes, and unpleasant surrounding. Involves contact with staff, visitors, and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Graduate and two (2) years of work experience in animal care to include the care of or maintenance of companion animals, such as, dogs, cats, etc. or the completion of three (3) semester units or four (4) quarter units from a recognized college or university in Biology, Life/Animal Science or related field; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Basic computer and typing skills required. Must obtain and maintain a certification as a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician within one (1) year of employment as a condition of continued employment. Certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) preferred. May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies associated with the job.
JOB TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNTS PAYABLE TECHNICIAN – (1 Opening) ANNUAL SALARY: $31,220.80 – $46,508.80 BI-WEEKLY: $1,200.80 – $1,788.80 Finance/Accounts Payable J.O. #13-190-R2
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of the Accounts Payable Supervisor. Assists with training and directing daily activities of the Accounts Payable Technicians; monitors and reviews contracts and payments for proper documentation and authorization; processes City financial obligations; reviews and prepares data for Accounts Payable Technicians to process; verifies available funds in the financial system including encumbered line, service center, account and contract balance; works with various divisions to assist in resolving contract, purchase orders and check request discrepancies; assists Purchasing Department in monitoring and tracking new contracts and changes to existing contracts; processes retainage payments based on established policy and contract; posts payment amounts to the Retainage Control Record, and releases retainage payments based on pre-final or final contract payment; converts retainage to certificate of deposit or escrow accounts, forwards appropriate information to the bank and reconciles quarterly the account balance with Accounting Department and bank; maintains vendor information and research discrepancies; establishes and makes requested changes to petty cash accounts; audits travel expense reports to ensure compliance with the City of Memphis’ Travel Policy; posts travel journal entries; distributes American Express card applications to authorized employees and maintains record of accounts and card numbers; reconciles American Express statements monthly and prepares the check request for payment; performs monthly field audits and reconciliation of petty cash funds; processes authorized journal entries relating to Accounts Payable; prepares various reports and spreadsheets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three (3) years of college with at least four (4) courses in Accounting and two (2) years of accounting or related experience required or any combination of education, experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.
