Meals Driver – MIFA

Reports to Transit program manager; part-time (25 hours per week); starting rate $10.00 per hour

Position Summary

The meals driver will deliver meals to all sites and clients in a safe and efficient manner while upholding all MIFA policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
  2. Six months’ experience in a driving-related capacity
  3. Valid driver’s license with F endorsement

Major Responsibilities & Related Tasks

 Deliver meals on time and efficiently

  • Load supplies and food containers into van in a timely manner
  • Maintain time schedule within the routes so the meals arrive in a timely fashion and at required temperature stated by funding source
  • Run route within rated time (five-hour route within five hours, six-hour route within six hours, etc.)
  • Return empty containers and used utensils to the kitchen daily when returning from route. Put equipment in proper area
  • Maintain accurate fuel and mileage records
  • Correctly complete daily route sheets noting meal count delivered, time delivered, explanation for non-delivery, and signature
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor on route changes needed, problems, etc.
  • Willingness deliver to congregate or home-delivered sites and cross-train on various routes
  • Promote and conduct an attitude conducive to teamwork
  • Display effective customer service ability among coworkers, clients, and other drivers on the roadway

Maintain safe driving habits on the road and around the facility

  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of van (check tires, windshield, mirrors, lights, and brakes) and complete inspection form
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of van
  • Communicate with supervisor any maintenance needed
  • Attend meetings on safety, training, company updates, new procedures, etc.
  • Drive defensively; be aware of vehicles around you, maintain speed within legal limits, do not use cell phone while driving, use seatbelt
  • Report any traffic violations or incidents immediately
  • While loading supplies and food containers into van do so safely, using proper lifting techniques (bending knees, using two hands, feet firmly planted)

Record-keeping and compliance

  • Maintain accurate time sheet
  • Sign in and out daily, with accurate times. Dispatch starts at 8 a.m.; sign in and begin work no earlier than 7:50 a.m. and no later than 8:10 a.m. Sign out at actual return time.
  • Complete route sheets daily as required, marking number of meals delivered or not delivered, time of delivery or attempted delivery, reason for non-delivery.
  • If one meal is delivered mark one on route sheet; if two meals are delivered, mark two on route sheet; if no meals are delivered, mark zero and note reason why, such as no one home, doctor appointment, in hospital, etc. Sign and date last page of route sheet. Complete route sheets in this manner daily.
  • If client does not answer, call office and report it; office personnel will call client
  • Keep accurate mileage logs daily
  • Keep accurate fuel logs
  • Secure any donations and log them, have office personnel verify them, and place in safe
  • For congregate routes, ensure that all food is accounted for (hot meals, milk, bread, desserts, and frozen meals) and verify by signing a form. Serving time may vary by site, and driver must deliver meals before that time per funder requirements.
  • On home-delivered routes, verify that meal count matches route sheet

Other Responsibilities

  • Promote and display professional conduct and attitude conducive to teamwork and meeting organizational and departmental goals. Be willing to drive either congregate or home-delivered routes as needed. Other duties assigned to meet department goals.
  • Ability to welcome and respect people of diverse ages and races with sensitivity to civic and cultural issues.
  • Ability to read a map book and schedule and to follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients.
  • Ability to keep accurate records such as mileage logs, timesheets, schedules, etc.
