Job Title: Lineman

Duties: Perform skilled work in the construction and maintenance of electric cable and powerline systems, and adhere to strict safety regulations.

Must have successfully completed approved Lineman Apprenticeship Program or equivalent experience and training. Must successfully complete placement/performance exercises. Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver License from state of residence.

Exposed to weather, traffic conditions and high voltage; subject to storm or emergency work and the normal hazards of construction work and physical activities such as climbing, walking, standing, bending, stooping, heavy lifting/pulling/pushing.

Candidates accepting Employment with MLGW must live and maintain their residence within the boundaries of Shelby County, Tennessee within six months of their employment date. EOE M/F/D/V

Job Title: Community Relations Coordinator I

Duties: Apply entry-level business knowledge and techniques to assist in developing and implementing various programs to better serve Division customers; coordinate departmental work with other departments, social/community and governmental agencies, customers and other external entities in order to achieve overall departmental objectives.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Social Services, Communications, or Journalism plus 0-2 years of professional-level experience in social/human services or related field. Knowledge of governmental low-income programs preferred. Must have proficient skills in applicable computer software applications. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works inside majority of time. Subject to hazards associated with conducting field interviews, investigations, observations and presentations.

Job Title: Computer Software Specialist III

Duties: Apply advanced-level business and information technology system practices and/or project management methodology in analyzing information requirements to determine hardware/software solutions; develop project plans; and implement, develop or maintain enterprise information systems to meet project deliverables.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or Business with a concentration in Information Systems or Math with a concentration in Computer Science or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 hours college-accredited Information Technology or Information Systems courses. Must have at least six years of experience and meet proficiency requirements. Must have demonstrated knowledge and skills in Oracle Forms, Oracle reports, ProC, PL/SQL. Must have at least one year of demonstrated experience as the primary support person for a particular system or application and demonstrated knowledge and skills in one or more of the following fields of expertise: Appworx, Apache Server, TOAD, Unix, Linux, Oracle, HTML, JAVA, XML or AJAX.

Preferred experience in one or more of the following: CIS Banner, Oracle E-business Suite modules; HR, OTL, OLM, Advanced Benefits, I-recruitment and Payroll modules.

Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works inside under good conditions. Subject to sitting for long periods of time at computer terminals; eye fatigue; grasping/reaching for technical manuals/printouts and distinguishing color; and occasional light lifting, bending, stooping/crouching to load computer equipment or paper and carry materials.

If there are no qualified bidders for Computer Software Specialist III, bidders will be considered for Computer Software Specialist II. If there are no qualified bidders for Computer Software Specialist I, bidders will be considered for Computer Software Specialist I.

Job Title: Instrumentation Technician

Duties: Install, test and maintain various types of pumping station instruments and equipment; and operate personal computer in the performance of job duties.

Associate degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Instrumentation or Telecommunications Engineering Technology. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 004 “Electronics Technician”)/Performance Exercises. Must successfully complete NIMS training within one year of entering job. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works inside pumping stations majority of time; subject to hazards of dirt, noise, falls from ladders or high structures, battery acid, medium lifting and working in the proximity of chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite, phosphate, fluoride acid, high pressure steam boilers, pipes under pressure and high voltage electrical equipment.

Job Title: Mechanic

Duties: Perform mechanical maintenance/repair work on Division vehicles and heavy equipment in shop and/or field.

Associate degree in Automotive Technology; OR successfully completed Mechanic Apprenticeship program;OR have four current ASE/FPS certifications; OR four years of experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles, or medium duty trucks or heavy equipment. ASE certifications A1-Engine Repair, or T1-Gasoline Engines, or T2-Diesel Engines and A6-Electrical/Electronics Systems or T6-Electrical/Electronic Systems are required, and based on departmental needs the two remaining certifications will be determined from an approved ASE/FPS list. The approved ASE/FPS list includes: A1-A8; T1-T6, T8; F1; L1; and/or FPS certifications which include Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic, Hydraulic Technician and/or Application/Electronics Specialist. Must obtain a valid Class A Commercial driver’s license from state of residence within trial or probationary period after entering classification. Must successfully complete Placement (Group 03C “Mechanics”)/Performance Exercises. Must pass Color Blind I Test. Must be able to differentiate sounds when making adjustments.

Works inside and outside. Subject to hazards of operating machinery and irritation from oils, solvents, chemicals and fumes. Make service calls in the field. Performs heavy lifting. Subject to climbing, standing/walking for extended periods, and working in uncomfortable positions.

Rabies Vaccination Drive – 4/23 & 4/30

ANNUAL RABIES VACCINATION DRIVE TO BE HELD APRIL 23rd AND APRIL 30th

MEMPHIS, TN – The annual Rabies Drive sponsored by the Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) Vector Control Program will be held Saturday, April 23, and Saturday, April 30, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Residents are encouraged to bring their dogs and cats to either location listed below to receive rabies vaccinations:

  • Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue,  Memphis, TN 38111
  • Fire Station #66, 5469 Raleigh Millington, Millington, TN 38053

Although the majority of rabies cases occur in wildlife, most humans will need the rabies vaccine after being exposed to infected domestic animals.  It is affordable to vaccinate pets before they are exposed to animals carrying the rabies virus.

The rabies tag, required by law, varies depending on the city of residence.
