DESCRIPTION:
MPLOY Youth Summer Experience is a locally funded initiative administered by the Memphis Office of Youth Services which provides Memphis youth (ages 14 to 21) with meaningful and rewarding summer experiences. MPLOY Youth will offer 1,000 teens and young adults with soft skills training, entry-level positions, or internship opportunities in various career paths while considering their strengths and interests. Some of the top employers in the Memphis area make this possible by agreeing to serve as partners offering structured job opportunities for youth for six weeks during the summer months.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MPLOY participants work in a variety of industries such as non-profits, healthcare, arts, banking, and communications. Responsibilities of MPLOY participants are set according to industry-specific guidelines, and are enforced by the Worksite Supervisors.

Participants commit to work for six (6) weeks during the summer months in jobs from different career paths, where they learn soft-skills training, maintain entry-level positions, and complete internships.MPLOY participants are expected to:

  • conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
  • show respect for the rights and feelings of other MPLOY participants, their job, the Worksite Supervisor, and the general public
  • comply with the policies and procedures of MPLOY Youth as well as those of their worksite
  • fulfill the job duties as outlined and enforced by the Worksite Supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required qualifications for MPLOY participants:

  • must be residents of the City of Memphis
  • must be between the ages of 14-21 by June 1, 2017

Additional qualifications for MPLOY participants:

  • positive attitude
  • ability to work independently or with a group
  • excellent organizational skills
  • ability to communicate well with others
  • learning spirit
  • professional demeanor
  • good time management skills
  • polite and respectful manners

Unless specified otherwise by the worksite, the dress code for all MPLOY-related activities is Business Professional.

Head Chef Opening @ Crosstown Arts

Crosstown Arts Head Chef

Crosstown Arts is seeking an experienced, creative chef for a full-time position providing healthy, plant-based food for a new café, multidisciplinary artist residency program and ongoing community events inside the newly renovated Crosstown Concourse building.

Scheduled to open in May of 2017, the café will offer a simplified menu for each meal of the day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) where participants in the residency program will be served alongside the general public.  The vision of the café is centered on giving the chef the rare opportunity to explore their own unique culinary creativity in a supportive environment providing innovative, health-conscious and affordable shared meals without having to adhere to a fixed menu.
