TSPN Hiring for West TN Regional Director

The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network has an opening for a full-time Regional Coordinator (RC).

Duties will include:

  • Oversight and facilitation of training sessions involving the evidence-based “Question, Persuade, and Refer” (QPR) suicide prevention training protocol for substance use professionals and program administrators as part of a program funded by the Division of Alcohol and Drug Services within the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
    • universities and college students and/or faculty in accord with the grant application
    • other groups as designated in the grant application
  • Instruction and elaboration upon the “TIP 50” protocols published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
  • Coordination of gatekeeper and lethality assessment training using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale for groups designated in the grant application.
  • Coordination of the ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) gatekeeper training.
  • Provision of general information and education about suicide prevention to targeted groups as requested.
  • Development and dissemination of regional mental health resource directories, youth wallet cards, posters and magnets to promote access to mental health services.
  • Participation with the cultural competency plan and a sustainability plan.
  • Presentations to professional conferences, trainings, and in-services to provide suicide prevention workshops.
  • Preparation of reports as necessary and required by the grant.
  • Assistance with the coordination of the TSPN regional network and meetings of this group.
  • Promotion of regional suicide prevention activities by initiating implementation of the Tennessee Strategy for Suicide Prevention upon development and approval of specific plans.
  • Facilitation of post-vention operations at schools, businesses, and other agencies affected by recent suicide deaths.
  • Fulfillment of any and all other requirements of the grant and the scope of service with the State of Tennessee when indicated.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required with master’s degree preferred. Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field. A minimum of four (4) years related experience in public health and/or mental health preferred, as well as experience working in suicide prevention and/or crisis intervention. Experience in training, coordinating regional activities, developing new and innovative programs and supervising volunteers and/or field placement students.

Skills: Proficiency in MS Windows, and MS Office proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Valid Tennessee driver’s license, a vehicle that can be used on the job, and valid vehicle insurance. Must be able to travel regional at least 50% of the time. Ability to train and instruct. Familiarity with use and promotion through social media. Personal Qualities: Must be able to motivate others, work as a team member, value cultural differences, resolve conflicts, and display genuine interest in working with at-risk persons and with people who want to make an impact. Must possess a high regard for confidentiality. Salary Range: $35,000 – $40,000

GS-2 positions applicants:  “high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months of experience.

Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above.”

“…GS-7 level” candidates “must have completed a four-year course in pharmacy and have a Bachelor’s or higher degree from an approved pharmacy school.  Applicants also need to be licensed.”
