Cognate BioServices, founded in 2002, is a contract manufacturing organization dedicated to serving customers engaged in but not limited to the development and commercialization of novel cellular and gene therapy applications.

Job Title: Senior Analyst, Quality Control, Microbiology

Cognate is currently seeking a Microbiologist in the Microbiology division of the Quality Control department.  The successful candidate will be responsible for microbial strain analysis using classical and state-of-the art microbiological methods. Experience with culturing and identifying various microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast, fungi by different methods such as Gram stain and PCR are key to this position. This position will require occasional environmental monitoring of GMP cleanrooms. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, computer proficiency and being able to work in a team is important for this position. In addition, effective communication skills and the ability to function in a fast-paced, highly technical environment with minimal supervision are essential for success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Experience in microbiology laboratory techniques (classical, biochemical, Gram’s staining and such).
• Familiarity with state-of-the art methods (BacT/ALERT, Milliflex, MICROSeq, etc) for rapid detection of microbes.
• Experience in PCR based assays.
• Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience in data/statistical analysis, reporting results in written reports and oral presentations.
• Excellent writing skills. Experience in drafting protocols and reports.
• Familiarity with relevant FDA, EMA, ICH, USP and EP guidelines and regulations associated with quality control of cell therapies and cleanrooms.
• Occasionally performs environmental monitoring in the GMP cleanrooms.
• Adheres to standard operating procedures and good documentation practices to ensure data integrity and traceability.
• Responsible for routine laboratory upkeep and organization.
• Receives raw materials and supplies for the QC laboratory.
• Maintains laboratory supplies, media and reagents inventory.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team.
• Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Masters or higher degree in Microbiology with 5 years of relevant Microbiology experience.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Experienced in Microbiology and aseptic techniques.
• Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot as necessary.
• Ability to work independently or as a team member.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Training and supervising analysts in microbiology techniques and methods.

ENVIRONMENT
• Must be able to fully gown-up for aseptic environment work.
• Must be able to occasionally work on weekends.

Cognate is currently seeking a Quality Control Analyst I for our QC Microbiology Department.  The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine environmental monitoring, product testing, and raw material testing.
The position requires the utmost attention to detail, very strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, and a basic understanding of microbiology and laboratory instrumentation.  In addition, effective communication skills and the ability to function in a fast-paced, highly technical environment with minimal supervision are essential for success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibility entails environmental monitoring of GMP cleanrooms, including air viable particulate, non-viable particulate, surface sampling and personnel monitoring
• Performs growth promotion of raw materials
• Performs Gram stain and classic microbiology techniques
• Performs bioburden and endotoxin testing of raw materials, in-process samples and finished products and responsible for shipping samples to sub-contractors for additional sterility tests
• Prepares environmental excursion reports and conducts laboratory investigations
• Receives raw materials and supplies for the QC laboratory.  Maintains laboratory supplies, media and reagents inventory
• Adheres to standard operating procedures and good documentation practices to ensure data integrity and traceability

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree with 0-2 years relevant laboratory experience or experience in a cGMP/FDA regulated industry. Degree in Microbiology or previous industry experience preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge in Microbiology and aseptic techniques preferred.
• Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot as necessary.

• Must be to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to fully gown-up for aseptic environment work.
• Must be able to work evening (2nd) shift and on weekends.

Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the maintenance of all financial systems and fiscal records, including the monthly close and annual audit. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for developing and assuring implementation of accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and funder requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Maintaining schedules for asset acquisition, disposal and capitalization
  • Reconciling various balance sheet accounts including salaries payable, fixed assets and others
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Responds to inquiries from company-wide directors and executives regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
  • Work with the CFO to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Support  executives with special projects and workflow process improvements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Ability to work independently, with strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records

Proficient in Quickbooks, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally, work effectively under stressful conditions, exercise initiative and sound judgment and react with discretion under varying conditions
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the area of financial statement preparation, budgeting, purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, or the equivalent.
