What We’re Looking For

Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is looking for qualified candidates for Project Geologist positions in our Nashville and Knoxville Offices. The primary focus will be supporting the environmental assessment/remediation group with managing and implementing field investigations, data management and analyses, client development, and report writing.

This position requires a dynamic individual who is flexible, learns quickly, can work independently, and can lead project teams. This position interacts throughout the company and externally with clients and internal business managers.

Specific activities will include:

  • Following safe work practices and adhering to company policies
  • Geologic logging and hydrogeologic testing on environmental projects
  • Contaminant data management and analyses and presentations
  • Preparation of technical reports pertaining to field investigations and studies
  • Development and management of budgets, determination of project scope, maintaining schedules, and interaction with clients and state/federal regulators
  • Preparation of proposals and presentations

Education/Experience Requirements

  • BS in geology or engineering geology
  • Current OSHA 40 Hour Training and Annual Refresher
  • Professional Registered Geologist in Tennessee or in adjoining states
  • Project management experience
  • Experience conducting environmental assessments and remedial actions
  • Number of years of relevant employment: 7 to 10 years
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication, as well as

Ideal candidates would also have

  • MS in geology
  • Proven marketing skills
  • Landfill permitting experience
  • Asbestos inspector certification
  • Experience with contaminate transport modeling

Community Outreach Assistant-St. Jude

st jude alsacAs the Community Outreach Assistant, you ensure linkage to care for individuals diagnosed with HIV in the surrounding community. The Department of Infectious Diseases has participated in this work for over nine years, working closely with community partners. By maintaining a basic understanding of the research protocols, public health systems, and data systems, you work with HIV infected youth on a daily basis, providing case management services. Additional responsibilities are as follows:

  •  Communicate with newly diagnosed and previously diagnosed HIV patients
  • Provide voluntary counseling, testing, and education
  • Act as a member of the liaison team for the Connect to Protect (C2P) at the Memphis Shelby County Health Department
  • Discuss psychosocial aspects of HIV and connect patients to psychosocial care
  • Coordinate with patient and medical team leading up to first medical visit
  • Give presentations in schools and at community events

 In this role, you will be out in the community building relationships in addition to the work done at St. Jude. Freelance Field Researchers – Levitt Foundation

The Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation (Levitt Foundation), a national private foundation based in Los Angeles, is conducting on-site surveys at permanent outdoor Levitt music venues, including the Levitt Shell in Overton Park located in midtown Memphis, beginning this June.

The survey fielding effort will be conducted by a team of field researchers who collect surveys during 2-hour shifts at 12 to 16 outdoor concerts throughout June and July. This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about audience research and evaluation methods specifically related to free, outdoor concerts and community events.

Concerts occur Thursdays through Sundays. Fielding session schedules will vary and will require researchers to be available for evening and weekend hours. Depending on weather conditions, some fielding sessions may need to be rescheduled to another evening. Dates for each fielding session, including back up dates to accommodate inclement weather, will be provided upon the interview.

Duties include:
• Collect surveys according to a detailed methodological protocol
• Provide the Field Research Coordinator with daily fielding reports
• Manage on-site fielding supplies, including fully-charged tablets, tracking sheets, name tags, etc.
• Respond to emails and calls from the Field Research Coordinator in a timely manner
• Communicate with a representative of the Levitt Shell, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should be a responsible, organized, prompt, and detail-oriented individual with excellent inter-personal and communication skills. Ideally, we are seeking freelance field researchers, undergraduate or graduate school students who have a background in the social sciences and/or experience with on-site survey collection.

The ideal candidate will also:
• be knowledgeable of the Levitt Shell mission and its programming
• be proactive in approaching potential survey respondents
• be comfortable working in diverse communities and cultures, including those traditionally underrepresented in the arts
• have the ability to “think on your feet”
• be extremely reliable with a positive, friendly attitude
• be able to stand for long periods of time
• maintain a professional, neat appearance

COMPENSATION
• freelance fielders will receive an hourly wage of $15-20, depending on qualifications and experience

Duties: Train, direct, perform and assign work to laboratory employees engaged in chemical, bacteriological, microbiology and other tests on drinking water; and perform instrumental analyses of drinking water to ensure compliance with federal, state and local agencies rules, regulations, and standards.

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from an accredited American Chemical Society university or college with 5 years of experience as a Water Quality Control Analyst.  Must be certified annually in chemical and microbiological analyses to comply with Section 1401 of the Safe Drinking Water Act, Public Law 93-523.  Must have a Grade IV Water Treatment Operator’s License from the State of Tennessee Board of Water and Waste Water certification and completed Hazardous Waste Materials Training (29 CFR 1910.120) and successfully completed NIMS Training within one year of entering the job.  Must pass the Color Blind 1 test.  Must have skills in computer software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.  Must have a valid driver’s license from the state of residence.

Works majority of time inside under good conditions.  Subject to hazards of working with chemicals, standing/walking for long periods of time, and medium lifting of supplies/equipment.
