Freedom Co-op is a non-profit agency that provides support persons for people with disabilities in the Memphis area. Our employees support our individuals in their daily activities in their homes and in the community while their families work.

The starting pay is $9.25/hr after 180 days a bonus a raise will be given.
We have immediate openings Mondays-Fridays 3pm-9pm and Saturdays 9am-12pm
 
Qualifications
 
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED
  • Must have or be willing to get CPR/First Aid certified
  • Must pass a fingerprint/background check
  • Must have computer skills
  • Must have a valid driver license
  • Must have a good working car
  • Valid car insurance

TITLE: Domestic Violence Advocate 

Bilingual preferred 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Associate Executive Program Director  

Closing date is November 1, 2018.

JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Domestic Violence Advocate provides direct aid; support and assistance to families by using methods of trauma-informed care makes referrals to appropriate community resources with an emphasis on domestic violence prevention.  In addition, the advocate is to help the client to reach goals of self-sufficiency and independent living.  The advocate will provide on-site and off-site information to individuals and groups to help identify and address personal, emotional, interactive, and mental challenges.   

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Direct Services 

  • Accepts referrals from the Family Safety Center and other community agencies 
  • Assists clients in locating housing 
  • Complete initial assessment of each resident’s physical, emotional, mental and adjustment needs 
  • Develops with residents, individual plans of action for achieving self-sufficiency, adjustment, and survival 
  • Maintain necessary and appropriate records 
  • Recommend community resources and referrals as necessary 
  • Conduct pre and post assessments for each adult resident 
  • Provide one adult support group per week and individual counseling as needed 
  • Meets with clients weekly to determine progress with their individual plans of action 
  • Drive to partner sites for presentations and on-site availability 
  • Maintains collaborative contacts with other agencies for referrals from crisis hotline to other appropriate agencies and for referral of shelter residents to other appropriate services 
  • Facilitates public transportation request of residents 
  • Share information with Resident Manager through communications log to document problems or significant situations; confer verbally with Resident Manager of any situations that arise requiring immediate attention. 
  • Confer with Director regarding warnings, probations or dismissal recommendations 
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as provided 
  • Meet with Director to review resident files and provide input regarding residents’ progress toward stated goals

 GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Administer the Residential Living program in accordance with the Policy and Requirements Handbook, Chapter 3;3.16 Residential Living and the MINACT Positive Center Culture System. Guides and monitors established Dorm Life expectations for residential students. Works closely with the Recreation Department to ensure that a viable program of recreational and avocation activities are provided to meet the leisure needs of residential students. Directs and monitors Career Success Standards (CSS) Life Skills sessions for students.   

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction) and one year experience in counseling or related field, plus one year experience working with youth and young adults. At least one year supervisory/management experience required. (Transcript required and must be provided by closing date of vacancy announcement). 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; Effective organization skills;  
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
