This is a part-time position (13 hrs. week), Fridays – Sundays (with some weekdays during pre-production). Experience not necessary but desired. Financial Rights Advocate/Reviewer – Disability Rights TN

Financial Rights Advocate/Reviewer

DRT is looking for a financial rights advocate/reviewer to be part of an expanding team. This position is responsible for the review of Social Security Administration (SSA) representative payees to ensure compliance, as well as education of representative payees regarding responsibilities and resources. This position seeks to ensure that individuals with disabilities who are social security beneficiaries are protected from financial misuse, mismanagement, or fraud.

This position will work in the West Tennessee Regional Office in Memphis, as well as travel extensively throughout West Tennessee and possibly to other regions of the state. Overnight travel may on occasion be required for this position. Day to day work will take place in a variety of settings including beneficiary’s homes, community locations, or representative payee offices.

This position reports directly to the Director of Advocacy-West Tennessee. This is a non-exempt professional position.

Conduct site visits to interview representative payees, beneficiaries, and legal guardians

Review confidential and private financial records

Document observations and collect evidence and information of value to report to the Social Security Administration regarding the wellbeing of beneficiaries and representative payee execution of requirements

Review and analyze financial records to assess violations or potential incidents of mismanagement of beneficiary funds

Conduct visits to beneficiary housing to identify possible health and safety violations, and ensure appropriate use of beneficiary funds

Prepare comprehensive reports detailing the interviews, financial reviews, site visit, referrals and recommendations

Develop corrective action plans to assist representative payees in conforming to requirements specified by the Social Security Administration

Participates in outreach, information gathering, presentations, and trainings as needed to further the program

Collaborates with Director of Community Relations to develop content for newsletter articles, social media, annual report, and other publications.

Assists the Program and Quality Director as needed in the completion of required reports including but not limited to annual Program Performance Reports and reports to DRT’s Board of Directors.

Participates in professional development activities.

Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director, Director of Advocacy, or Program and Quality Director.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Master’s Degree in Special Education, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Counseling, or related degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years or more experience as an advocate or in a similar position will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. Extensive advocacy background may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.

Government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management is required for this position.

Existing knowledge of social security benefits and/or disability rights issues preferred.

Demonstrated functional knowledge in basic accounting principles and terminology preferred.

Sound professional judgment.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Proficient use of technology

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to engage in logical analysis.

Ability to work well in teams.

Ability to professionally represent DRT.

Salary Range: $35,000-$45,000

Customer Care Specialist (New Member Conversion)

This position will be based out of our Memphis headquarters. The individual serving in this role will mostly provide office-based support to our members and potential members, by assisting in placement for families, in on-boarding of new volunteers and by responding to general inquiries and needs of our customer base. The individual serving in this role will also be part of the team that serves as the first point of contact for inquiries via phone, email or in person. They are responsible for providing the highest level of customer service to all members and potential members, both internal and external. Additionally, this person’s work will necessitate a proficiency in a large suite of various technology tools, the ability to reach goals in a fast-paced, task-driven environment that requires skills in multi-tasking and conflict resolution. Depending on department needs, this person’s work could have an emphasis on conducting programming for our membership, through outreach, Girl Scouts in the School Day, and training.

Duties: Assist in the protection and security of Division personnel and property and any other phase of security work as directed. High school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.). Must have 2 years full-time Corporate Security or law enforcement experience. Must have a current Tennessee Armed Guard license and possess the appropriate registration card as required by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, (current POST certified officers are exempt from this requirement). Duties: Install, repair, maintain and construct automotive/equipment, accessories and various other items; refinish repaired surfaces, using paint spray gun and sander.

Drug screening, with negative test results, is required prior to entry into this classification. Must have knowledge/skills in automotive body work. Must have successfully completed Physical Abilities Test (PCMII). Must obtain welding certification under ANSI/AWS D1.1-90 within trial or probationary period after entering classification.

Must successfully complete Placement (Group 03B “Mechanics”)/ Performance Exercises. Must obtain a valid Class A Commercial driver’s license from state of residence within trial or probationary period after entering classification. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works in shop majority of time. Subject to the hazards of hand/power tools, flammable materials and equipment/machinery in operation, noise, dirt, dust and fumes, heavy lifting, standing for extended periods and working in uncomfortable positions.

Food Service Worker

Position Overview

Prepping and cooking meals on a daily basis, by following recipes and dietary guidelines. Responsible for maintaining excellent safety and sanitation standards within the department. Also responsible for helping to maintain kitchen stock areas and helping to check in/ put away stock as it is brought in. May be required to work at different campuses, as needed. Have at least six months of cooking experience in a school system, putting up stock, lifting, standing, serving meals, following health code.

Have knowledge of USDA guidelines

The shift hours are 10:30am-7:00pm. Weekend and holiday work is required.


Six months of experience as a cook in a non-fast food restaurant or healthcare setting. Familiarity with basic kitchen principles, portioning, stock management, and health department regulations. High School Diploma or GED preferred. ServSafe Certification preferred.

Be able to stand for period of time.

Be able to raise, lower, and carry objects 25-50lbs.
