Some of the hourly Family Dollar distribution center jobs are described below. Most positions involve a fast paced work environment, with regular lifting of up to 60 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Shipping Loader – Fills orders for stores while maintaining an established production level and quality standards. Ensures accurate and proper loading of merchandise destined for our stores from our Family Dollar warehouse. Properly stacks all merchandise in trailers so there’s no damage when delivered. Scans merchandise as it is loaded.

Bulk Order Filler – Fills orders for delivery to stores while maintaining established production levels and quality standards. Orders are pulled by bulk/case quantities.

Forklift Operator – This Family Dollar warehouse job requires the operation of material handling equipment to transport freight throughout the Distribution Center. Transports labeled freight to its assigned place for storage or shipment.

Repack Order Filler – Selects items ordered by stores and pack them properly in boxes or containers. Pulls store orders according to set production and quality standards.

Repack Stocker – Ensures correct merchandise is stocked in an efficient manner on pick lines when needed by Order Fillers. Stocks according to an established production level and quality standards.

General Warehouse – Works in one of five primary Family Dollar warehouse departments (bulk, shipping, receiving, forklift, or repack). Duties include but are not limited to loading/unloading freight, stocking, order filling, box processing and housekeeping.

Maintenance Tech III – Performs routine preventive maintenance (mechanical) on all major types of power transmission products. Performs necessary emergency repairs and troubleshooting on equipment. Medium level electrical installations will also be required. (2-5 years of relevant experience required).

Security Guard – Assists the security supervisor with the daily activities of the operations. Secures grounds of Family Dollar warehouse, maintains reports, performs regular inspections of Distribution Center and checks trucks in and out according to procedures.

Yard Switcher – Moves trailers around the yard as needed to provide trailers for the shipping and receiving dock doors. Provides some maintenance of trucks and runs local routes. Job requirements include Class A CDL, 1-year Over-the-Road driving experience and safe driving record required.

  • Handle day-to-day operational issues such as replacing light bulbs and other light maintenance.
  • Understand and oversee the care, condition and performance of facilities plumbing, electrical installations, security, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Direct and/or perform repairs on facilities equipment.
  • Arrange for and supervise the care and maintenance of parking lots, outdoor walkways, exterior lighting systems, lawns, plantings, and other maintenance requirement for the Campus grounds.
  • Maintain a list of service and supply vendors and maintain the primary relationship with the vendors.
  • Regulate access control to Soulsville Campus.
  • Control ingress and egress of students, employees, vendors and entry doors not open to the public.
  • Manage daily operation of physical security controls; assist in development of security plans for the properties.
  • Monitor and act on information from fire alarm, intrusion alarm, closed circuit television and the emergency telephone.
  • Supervise security guards contracted for special events.

  • Technical School or Community College certificate (2years) in Building Services/Maintenance, HVAC, Electrical, etc. preferred;

  • Experience with OSHA worker safety, local building codes and/or fire safety is also preferred.
  • Facilities Management (FM), Certified Facilities Manager (CFE) or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE), etc. certification preferred.

This position requires excellent PC skills; experience with Windows, Word, and Excel; aptitude and willingness to learn new software programs through hands-on use and self-study.

  8. Oversees procurement and contracting of maintenance and repair services as needed.
  9. Directs the training of staff in areas pertaining to maintenance, operations, and safety.
  10. Makes recommendations for space planning in shared-use facilities.
  11. Prepares Requests for Proposals as needed for required contracts and services
  12. Advises management staff on Division, and Department, policies and procedures.
  13. Appraises performance of direct reports.
  14. Assists with the development of the department’s operating and maintenance budget.
  15. Performs special projects or activities as assigned by the Administrator.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

“Minimum Qualifications:

  1. “Five (5) years of experience in a responsible administrative/managerial capacity, and
  2. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in public or business administration, engineering sciences, or other closely related field; OR
  3. An equivalent combination of related education and experience.

“Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of the following:

  1. “Technical aspects of facility operations, including current practices and materials used in the repair of facilities
  2. Facility operations and maintenance planning, development, and implementation.
  3. Laws, regulations, and standards associated with safety, labor, and building codes.
  4. Project construction and equipment installation blueprints and diagrams.
  5. Personnel policies and regulations pertaining to bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit employees.

“Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.”
