Program Overview

Youth Villages’ Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems.  Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings.  We have three different types of facilities—Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes.  Located in Tennessee, Georgia, and Oregon, all of these facilities utilize the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed). The majority of these youth attend the fully accredited schools which are located on our residential treatment campuses.

Position Overview

Plan for individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and other skills.
Participate in training and in-service activities.
Administer and interprets testing to determine academic needs.
Develop and uses a variety of teaching techniques.
Produce lesson plans that reflect the individual educational needs of students.
Prepare reports in compliance with school guidelines.
Maintain progress notes, attendance records, and grade scores in a timely manner.
Other essential duties as needed.
Candidates may have the opportunity to teach in specialized subjects
Monday – Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm.
Additional Information

Small Class Sizes to allow more one on one attention to individual students and their educational needs. The standard Youth Villages class size ranges from 8-15 children.

Job Title & Description Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in education with appropriate certification is required (K-12)

Certified Recreation Therapy Specialist ** $2,000 Relocation Assistance**

Position Overview

Are you looking for a change of pace? Do you enjoy working with children in a non-traditional setting? The Recreation Therapy position may be just what you are looking for. Our Recreation Therapists work with young people in a Residential setting to develop their abilities to interact with others in a team and increase their self-esteem. An ideal Recreation Therapist is creative, enthusiastic and can come up with new and innovative games and activities to keep the resident’s engaged, all while building confidence in their abilities and promoting their teamwork skills. Recreation Therapist Specialists facilitate groups with the youth on a daily basis and coordinate additional activities for the campus.

Position Details
Coordinates activities of recreation service personnel in a staff secured residential treatment facility for youth by performing the following duties. Other duties may be assigned.
Manages student council and volunteer activities for youth involved.
Oversees the use of canoeing and high ropes courses equipment and resident participation on applicable campus’.
Develops and promotes recreation program, including music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature study, swimming, social recreation, and games, or camping. Promotes life skills training through
therapeutic activities
Adapts recreation programs to meet needs residents of the agency.
Promotes and coordinates participation in clubs and organizations as may be helpful to the development of individual children.
Works in a team with administrative or other professional personnel such as those engaged in medicine, social work, nursing, psychology, and therapy, to ensure that recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated with special services.
Ensures that relevant information is conveyed to treatment team members.
Ensures that required notes and documentation are completed in a timely manner
Maintains recreation equipment and consults with appropriate staff for replacement of depleted equipment.
Oversees initial recreational assessment upon intake (within 14 days)
Introduces and trains new program activities, equipment, and materials to staff.

Additional Information

The supervision and treatment of youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility. May be required to run and climb flights of stairs. Must be able to participate in physical interventions with youth when necessary. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Will be required to complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training.
Applicants are required to pass an agility and strength evaluation.
Applicants must have valid driver’s license.

Recreation Therapy Specialists work a flexible schedule and some weekends may be required.

Position Overview

The Behavioral Youth Counselor, also known as a Teacher Counselor:

Teaches the children necessary life skills and provide for their physical daily care.
Assists in treatment planning for each child.
Conducts daily documentation such as contact notes, milieu notes, and precautionary notes.
Participates in client transports to various locations
Participates in recreation therapy with children.
Improves children’s behavior through coping skills and other therapeutic interventions.
Conducts group and 1 on 1 counseling sessions
Additional Information

The TC (Teacher Counselor) schedule runs either Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat
Three weekdays: (M-W or W-F) 2:00pm-10:30pm
One weekend day: 6:30am-10:30pm
Some TCs spend the night once or twice a week on the campus and have additional responsibility for waking the residents and directing them with their morning routine.  This schedule also provides counselors with a three day weekend. (Please note: Counselors do not live on the campuses and are responsible for securing their own residencies.)  Each campus differs on their schedule structure and rotations and can be discussed further with a specific hiring manager.

Nursery Caretaker-Sundays @ Idlewild Presbyterian Church

Purpose:​ To provide safe, secure, and nurturing care in a clean environment to children while at Idlewild Presbyterian Church.

Required hours:​ Sunday morning from 8:15 a.m. to approximately 12:15 p.m.
*Optional opportunities for occasional childcare needs outside of Sunday mornings.

Responsibilities and/or duties:

  • Responsible for providing age-appropriate care which includes: feeding, changing diapers,escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, or sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play and prayer.
  • Make sure all children get signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • Communicate effectively and harmoniously with children, parents, and volunteers.
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to the early morning service. You are expected to work all Sundays even if it falls on a holiday. You will have the option to work other church events, i.e. Easter, Christmas,etc. The opportunity for extra work will be announced at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
  • Stay until the children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.
  • In the event of an emergency, we will notify the parent or designated guardian via phone.
  • Straighten the room and clean any toys/beds before leaving.
  • Employee will report any issues which are hindering them from carrying out their duties or responsibilities to the Director of Children’s Ministry.
  • Communicate in advance by phone to the Director of Children’s Ministry 1) any planned absences with an advance two week notice, or 2) any unplanned absences at least two hours prior to the shift.

Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Experience in childcare or early childhood development.
● Employee will care for children between the ages of newborn through 5 years with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities.
● At least 18 years of age.
● Satisfactory completion of background check.
● Must adhere to Idlewild Presbyterian Church Child Protection Policy Guidelines.
● Physical activity to include: frequently standing, walking and sitting. Employee must be able to regularly lift up to 40 pounds for diaper changes or emergency situations.
● Three references are required.

NOTE:​ Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences will result in probation and/or
termination of employment.
