About the Tennessee Charter School Center The Tennessee Charter School Center is a new statewide charter school support organization dedicated to representing, supporting and creating high-achieving charter schools committed to excellence through skillful autonomy and transparent accountability.   The Center is focused on catalyzing and supporting the growth of a high quality charter sector in Tennessee, and will carry out its mission through leadership development training, school launch support, performance-enhancing services, and policy and advocacy initiatives.
Job Overview   The newly formed Tennessee Charter School Center seeks to hire a new Director of Community Engagement who will focus on building a strong, cohesive base of advocates for high-achieving public charter schools in Tennessee.    The Director of Community Engagement serves as a campaign manager — organizing events, managing full-time community organizers in Nashville and Memphis, and serving as the chief strategist for the Voice, the Center’s network of parents and supporters for quality public charter schools.
Accountability The Director of Community Engagement will report to the CEO.
Responsibilities

  • Manage full-time Community Organizers in Memphis and Nashville
  • Develop an advocacy strategy aimed at garnering the support of state and local leaders for high-quality public charter schools
  • Oversee and build membership of the Voice, the advocacy network of parents and charter school supporters
  • Plan events and campaigns around charter school initiatives (policy priorities, parental engagement, student recruitment)
  • Organize the Charter School Day on the Hill for hundreds of supporters at the Tennessee State Capitol
  • Organize weekly meetings between Voice members and legislators during legislative session
  • Facilitate tours of charter schools for local and state officials
  • Provide year-round opportunities for parents to connect with elected officials
  • Conduct advocacy trainings and workshops
  •  Organize and facilitate charter school educational workshops around the state
  • Collect and maintain data points regarding Voice membership and activities
  • Manage a database of charter school events, parent meeting schedules, parent information, etc.
  • Manage the advocacy page of the organization’s website and contribute to advocacy-related social media content

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of work experience
  •  Significant experience working with a political or grassroots campaign
  • Demonstrated success in community organizing
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team preferred

  • Skilled in developing and implementing effective political strategies
  • Desire to cultivate creative ideas and execute new projects

Location This position can be based in our Memphis or Nashville office, with significant statewide travel.

Compensation Competitive salary, dependent upon education and experience level.

POSITION TITLE:               School Director – Arrow Academy of Excellence (AAE) Charter School

 

SALARY RANGE:               $83,250.00 – $87,125.00

 

REPORTS TO:                      Unified School Board and AAE Board

 

POSITION:                           AAE, Full-time regular twelve months per year, Exempt

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the AAE Charter School Board of Directors, the School Director is responsible for providing executive leadership in educational and instructional methods while managing all related administrative and management activities which contribute to the overall success of AAE Charter School in effectuating its mission.   The School Director will lead the educational delivery of the National Common Core Standards integrated in the Triple Bottom Line approach of instilling respect, appreciation and confidence in students in the Social, Environmental, and Economic disciplines.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Learning and Teaching
  • School Culture and Behavior
  • Management and Development of People, Systems  Resources
  • Student Recruiting and Admissions
  • Parent and Community Relations

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Strategic Management of the school
  • Monthly reporting to the AAE Board of Directors
  • Student recruitment and admissions
  • Ensures that the executive staff and AAE Board of Directors are aware of any potential legal issues
  • Protects school time and resources to ensure efficient conduct of school instruction in order to reach and exceed state standards
  • Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program by understanding the individual needs of students in the program and assess the programs designed to meet those needs
  • Provides proactive, comprehensive and facilitative leadership for the school in the planning and implementation of the Triple Bottom Line concepts
  • Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary request
  • Professional internal and external relations with the AAE Board of Directors, donors, the local and national community, for the purpose of demonstrating the school is well managed and maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and in legal compliance with the charter contract
  • Understands and effectively  procedures and practices for student transitions (i.e., intake, dismissal, etc)

FACULTY TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Design, develop, implement and manage all levels of faculty training and development to include classroom observations, feedback, assessment, and evaluation programs, in-service training, new faculty orientation, and leadership development programs.
  • Lead, develop and manage policies and procedures in multiple areas to include all training programs and teaching tools related to opening a new school
  • Develop and implement the teacher evaluation program
  • Deliver a strong, positive and high quality customer service approach to serving faculty and ensuring the recruitment and retention of the most appropriate faculty needed to achieve our vision, mission, and goals.
  • Continue to develop as a leader and expert in school academic programming and educational faculty development.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT:

  • The School Director will lead and manage our comprehensive curriculum standards and for our comprehensive curriculum program development, which includes our Triple Bottom Line approach to learning.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited, four-year college or university; an advanced degree is preferred (e.g. MBA, MPA, JD, M.Ed).  Relevant education may substitute for experience and relevant experience may substitute for education if it can be demonstrated to provide equivalent functioning levels.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tennessee School Principal Certification preferred-Administration/Supervision K-8 (109), Beginning Administrator PreK-12-A (480), Beginning Administrator PreK-12-B (481), Professional Administrator PreK-12-A (482), or Professional Administrator PreK-12-B (483)
  • Five years of experience as a lead administrator, including oversight responsibilities for each of the following areas: strategic development; operational planning, management and evaluation; program development and implementation; communications; contract development and administration;
    budget management and accounting; and personnel management.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a school district administrator preferred
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered
