MCS Career & College EXPO – Feb 23-24, 8:30am to 1:30pm

On Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24, more than 6,000 high school students will attend the 4th Annual Career & College EXPO led by Memphis City Schools.  Held at the Cook Convention Center, the EXPO will assemble – under one roof – educational institutions, businesses, organizations, career centers, branches of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and health care professionals who will connect MCS students with career and college opportunities.  From 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day, students will network with college advisors, financial aid experts and employment recruiters.

The 2012 EXPO kicks-off with its first parent reception on Wednesday, February 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. While open to all parents, organizers especially encourage parents of eighth-graders to attend in order to inform them early of new programs that prepare students for specific careers. These include the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program, Memphis Health Careers Academy, and the soon to be launched Transportation and Logistics program.  Parents will be able to collaborate with MCS teachers, counselors and administrators, community leaders and other parents, as well as with members of the 2013 school merger Transition Planning Commission.

The EXPO helps youth to explore employment options, develop career-readiness skills, and discuss post-secondary education opportunities. Over the years, it has opened doors for many students through job interviews, apprenticeships, college placement and financial aid assistance.

Confirmed 2012 EXPO exhibitors include Nucor Steel, Memphis Light, Gas and Water, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Dillard University, Bethune-Cookman University, LeMoyne-Owen College, Southwest Tennessee Community College, Remington College, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and many more.
