The Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County, Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Memphis, TN, whose purpose is to effectively combine civil, criminal, health and social services in order to help victims of family violence.  We are seeking a Child Care Worker who is highly dedicated and demonstrates empathy and compassion to clients, and who will maintain positive relationships in the workplace.  This position will report to the Director of Client Services and will be an integral part of the team to support the needs of the organization.

Status:                          Regular Part-Time

FLSA:                          Non-exempt

Hours:                          10:30am to 3:30pm Monday – Friday – Other as required

Job Summary:  Greet families visiting the organization and provide supervision for children in the child care areas, maintaining organizational standards, preparation of reports and documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides welcome, referral and orientation for clients and families.
    • Welcome children and their families who come to the organization for services.
    • Work closely with direct service providers, linking children and adults with appropriate staff.
    • Provide agency orientation for new client families.
  • Provide trauma-informed care and engagement for children while parent(s) are meeting with staff and service providers.
  • Monitor and maintain the child play areas for safety and appearance per organization standards.
  • Assists receptionist with monitoring children in lobby play area.
  • Complete required reports, documentation and data entry.
  • Attends training and workshops on trauma and child care related issues as directed by supervisor.
  • Handles client and office grocery ordering, pickup, stocking, inventorying, reporting, and maintenance of break room, following required standards.
  • Serves as backup for Receptionist, handling clients, visitors and telephone calls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.

 The Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County, Inc. is a non-profit corporation located in the City of Memphis, TN whose purpose is to effectively combine civil, criminal, health and social services in order to help victims of family violence.  Founded in 2009 under the Memphis Child Advocacy Center, it became its own entity in 2011.  We are seeking a controller that is highly motivated, analytical and well organized to manage the full operations of the accounting department as we continue to grow.   The controller will be a key member of the Finance Committee as well as the overall organization. 

 Job Reporting Relationships:

Report to:                           Executive Director

Oversees:                           All accounting operations and services

Basic Qualifications:

Education/Training:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.  Knowledge of non-profit accounting preferred.  Certified Public Accountant license a plus.

Skill(s):   Speaks and understands English; proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; proficient analytical skills; demonstrated management and supervisory skills; and valid driver’s license. Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Quick Books experience preferred.

Experience:  A minimum of five (5) years of related accounting experience required; experience with financial reporting, cash management, insurance, payroll, financial analysis, taxes and budgeting.

General Responsibilities:

The Controller will work collaboratively with all members of the Family Safety Center and will have primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the accounting department including general ledger, month-end close and reconciliation work, working with third party accounting services and external auditors, financial reporting to grant agencies, budgeting, reporting to Board of Directors and the Finance Committee and other activities as needed by the Center.

Responsibilities Include the Following:

  • Generate, review and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including variance analysis preparation, to ensure that all financial information has been recorded accurately
  • Generate monthly adjusting journal entries and prepare account reconciliations
  • Coordination with external auditors for the year-end audit and I.R.S. Form 990 tax return preparation including preparation of year-end audit schedules and review of audit report and tax return drafts
  • Work with third party accounting services for payroll
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Providing periodic reports as needed
  • Quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors and reporting to the Finance Committee as needed
  • Manage the cash operations, insurance program, accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
  • Manage the accounting for contributions received and pledged and account for temporary and permanently restricted funds
  • Assisting the Executive Director with budgeting and forecasting
  • Implement strategies to achieve goals as established in the department’s annual operating budget/plan
  • Assist other employees with any accounting related matters and help management stay within budgeted expenditures
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls, policies, process and procedures are in place
  • Ensure the department’s compliance with operating standards and procedures and outside regulatory requirements including external reporting requirements
  • Organize the work and activities of the accounting department
  • Communicate with appropriate management and staff
  • Maintaining the general ledger accounting system, including the chart of accounts, period-end closing process and financial statement report creation and maintenance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Our mission is to provide one location that effectively combines civil, criminal, health and social services for victims of family violence. The Center Navigator is responsible for assisting the client in accessing services from agency partners that accommodate the individual needs of the client.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides welcome, referral and follow-up to clients who seek services
  • Completes all administrative records pertaining to work related activities and assigned caseloads
  • Provides information from partner agencies based on client needs
  • Makes referrals to community agencies when appropriate
  • Provide consultation, case management and referrals
  • Assist with and participates in professional development and community outreach activities

An undergraduate degree in social work or similar discipline from an accredited program with at least two years direct client contact; or an associate degree with life experience and two years of direct client contact is required.  Experience should also include working with domestic violence victims for at least two years.  Interested candidates should be fluent in both English and Spanish. TITLE:            FSC Center Navigator

                       

REPORTS TO: Program Operations Director of FSC of Memphis and Shelby County

 

OVERVIEW:   The Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County (FSC) is an initiative of the Shelby County Crime Commission, Operation: Safe Community, Strategy 14. As a result of that initiative, the FSC collaborates with more than 20 government and community agencies to offer holistic support services to victims of intimate partner violence. Our mission is to effectively combine civil, criminal, health and social services in one location in a seamless delivery of services.

 

The Center Navigator position will be the gateway for which clients enter the FSC’s system of delivery of services. The Intake procedure is designed to create a non-intrusive way in which to efficiently and effectively process a client through the FSC. This person provides consultation, case management and information as a referral, completes necessary administrative records pertaining to work related activities and follow up with assigned clients.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Conduct an intake needs assessment for the client requesting service.
  • Coordinate and connect the client to the appropriate agency based on the outcomes of the needs assessment.
  • Coordinate schedules for appointments with partner agencies and clients. Assist with following up for missed appointments.
  • Provides and secures information from FSC partner agencies based on client needs
  • Assists FSC partners with client information and makes referrals to community agencies when appropriate
  • Follow up with clients that receive services from the FSC in a timely manner.
  • Assure that children receive child care while the client is receiving services at the FSC. 

 

Provides consultation and case management

  • Consult with appropriate FSC staff and partner agencies staff regarding client needs and problems.
  • Completes the Lethality Assessment during intake.
  • Assists in consultation and education services to other agencies and organizations.
  • Regularly attends FSC staff meetings.

Completes all administrative records pertaining to work related activities and assigned caseloads

  • Establishes and maintains clients records and complies with all requirements related to documentation of services rendered.
  • Completes clients’ statistical documentation/reports by established deadlines.
  • Prepares and submits proper summaries and reports to other agencies and professionals promptly and in accordance with confidentiality protocols.

Assists with and participates in professional development activities and client and community outreach

  • Assists with the organization, preparation and provision of professional development activities for FSC and other professionals.
  • Obtains mandatory continued learning education hours annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ability to thoughtfully communicate with and respectfully engage diverse with the client and partner agencies.
  • Direct experience working with government and/or local community agencies.
  •  A Bachelor’s degree required. Masters level training in Criminal Justice or Social Work preferred. Minimum of two years’ experience with responsibilities relevant to duties.
  • Working knowledge domestic violence dynamics and its impact on children and families.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of children and families from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Working knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse and its impact on children and families. 
  • Demonstrated computer experience with word processing or varied software required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to excel at details, multi-tasking and working under pressure.
  • Must have some experience and skilled in the use of software programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and can work as a member of a team

 

Salary: 

Approximate salary $30,000-$34,600

Job Title:

Reports to:

Executive Director

 

Job Purpose:   To greet families visiting the Family Safety Center and provide supervision for children in the child care waiting area.


Skills and Qualification:

High school diploma required.  At least 2 years experience in child care, social services, or other related field.  Good relationship skills; sensitivity to cultural/ ethnic differences; and ability to work as part of a team. 

 

Experience & Knowledge:

 

  • Welcome children and their families who come to the FSC for services provided to families that have been exposed to family violence.
  • Works closely with FSC and its direct service providers to provide seamless service for visitors while at the agency, linking children and adults with appropriate staff.
  • Provide Agency Orientation to families arriving at the Center for the first time.
  • Engage children and care for the children while their parents meet with FSC Center Navigators and direct service providers.
  • Monitor and maintain the playroom for safety and appearance, in accordance with agency standards
  • Complete required reports and minimal data entry, as needed
  • Other duties as directed.
  • A minimum of 12-hours in-service training is required.  Attendance at conferences and workshops may be included as part of the 12-hour minimum.  Six hours of the annual training must be provided by sources outside of the agency.
  • Regularly attends FSC Staff meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Salary

$23,500 – $24,780 (commensurate with experience)

 

Applicant must be able to successfully complete background investigation, including fingerprinting.
