ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of an assigned supervisor in the overall maintenance of grounds and turf of City golf courses. Supervises, coordinates, instructs, and evaluates the work of subordinates engaged in all aspects of turf management, including irrigation, fertilization, dispensing and mixing chemicals, and in the use of turf equipment. Reviews work performed by contractors. Assists in plant selection for grounds. Assists in the preparation of department budget. Orders supplies in line with approved budgets. Maintains records of daily work activities. Plans and develops procedures, materials, and safety standards applicable to the care and maintenance of golf courses, including utilizing knowledge of turf diseases, pesticides, mixing chemicals, and safety methods. Develops and organizes techniques used in the care and maintenance of turf, shrubs, trees, and other greenery. Maintains soil treatments used to establish conditions conducive to the healthy growth of grass and other plants. Establishes priorities of equipment repair. Oversees the equipment maintenance programs. Exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses in line with approved budgets. Operates and maintains the equipment and tools used including turf equipment, tractor with attachments, irrigating systems, and high pressure pumps. Inspect and monitors overall turf condition of course to determine need for supplemental irrigation or fertilization. Develops maintenance schedule for the golf course. Provides work direction, assignment of duties, evaluation of work performance, and discipline for assigned personnel through constructive and cooperative working relationships. Creates and prepares a variety of correspondence, memoranda, and reports by utilizing various computer applications. Interacts and communicates verbally and in writing with general public, vendors, contractors, government agencies, management, and other staff members on a variety of issues and concerns.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to inspect golf course and to operate equipment used in maintaining a golf course such as mowers, tractor with attachments, etc. Requires lifting (approx. 50 lbs), reaching, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching for long periods of time. Requires the ability to traverse uneven ground to visually inspect property. Must be able to communicate with staff, management, vendors and outside contractors.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors and may be exposed to noise, dust, and chemicals. May be exposed to various weather conditions. May be required to work weekends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED and six (6) years ground maintenance experience to include three (3) years in maintenance of golf courses, with one (1) of the six (6) years in a supervisory/lead capacity; or any combination of training and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess a Tennessee pesticide and herbicide applicator certification, or ability to obtain certification before the end of 12 months of employment as a Golf Parks Foreman. May be required to complete a job-related assessment as determined by Human Resources. Must possess a valid Driver’s License or obtain within six (6) months of employment as a condition employment.
