Girl Scouts Heart of the South is seeking a temporary, part-time candidate to assist with surveys and evaluations across our jurisdiction for a year-long assignment. The Research and Evaluation Specialist will work from the Memphis, TN location to ensure a high quality experience for girls and volunteers by advising on the creation of evaluation tools which assess member experiences and outcomes.

 

Brief Summary:

  • Develops and implements an overall evaluation and research strategy related to the council’s strategic goals
  • Leads and oversees the implementation of data collection and data collection instruments and procedures to ensure a systematic approach to assessing the impact of the council’s work is developed
  • Designs and conducts research and analysis studies on topics of importance to the council and its constituencies, with particular focus on outcomes measurement of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience
  • Connects council work with nationally developed tools and research
  • Works with key members of management to assess how impact can best be measured and develops ways to collect data and analyze results;
  • Plays a key role in the continuous education of staff regarding impact and evaluation results

 

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or two to three years experience in evaluations and surveying.  The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Suite and the Internet.  The ability to plan, prioritize and work in a team environment as well as work independently is also required. The candidate should possess strong analytical and organizational skills and great attention to detail.  The Research and Evaluation Specialist should be able to quickly learn new software and foster contributions from people with diverse backgrounds. The ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends is also a requirement. All candidates should have a valid driver’s license and be able to use their own vehicle for the position. A good driving record is preferred.

Job Summary:  Responsible for various functions in support of volunteer activities.  Duties include recruitment, coordinating, scheduling, tracking and training of individuals who volunteer time and service to Mid-South Food Bank.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance the Mid-South Food Bank (MSFB) volunteer program to support vital daily operations, general community relations and donor cultivation including the recruitment, coordination, recognition and training of volunteers.
  • Facilitate volunteer scheduling, confirmation and thank you process.
  • Maintain volunteer job descriptions, policies, protocol and standards.
  • Communicate with MSFB staff regarding volunteer scheduling, needs and expectations.
  • Maintain up-to-date volunteer information and database, logging total volunteer hours, etc.  Collect volunteer information in quantifiable terms to compare numbers, demographics, etc. and to identify patterns and areas for growth with the greatest impact.
  • Manage court ordered community service workers and act as the liaison between the courts and the Food Bank, providing reports and verification of time as needed.
  • Manage the student ambassador program.
  • Represent MSFB at various community events and other speaking engagements to communicate volunteer opportunities.
  • Attend volunteer functions including after hour events.
  • Promote volunteer activities at MSFB.
  • Maintain working relationships that ensure the success of Food Bank programs.  This includes maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with agency representatives, donors, volunteers and the Food Bank staff.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Two years of college or equivalent business experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, including long term and immediate deadlines.

TNTP seeks a part-time Operations Assistant for the Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative (MTTI).  The Operations Assistant will be a TNTP employee, based at the Memphis City Schools Board of Education.  The position is available immediately.  

Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative

Teachers are the most powerful resource a school has to raise student achievement. Hiring decisions need to be driven by the imperative to help schools build the most effective instructional teams possible. That requires matching a highly vetted and screened pool of teacher applicants with school leaders who have been trained to hire teachers who are the best fit for the needs of their students. We will implement a start-to-finish teacher pipeline solution that is year-round and tied to results. Specifically, the Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative (MTTI) will collaborate with Memphis City Schools (MCS) and Shelby County Schools (SCS) to supply high-quality teachers, support effective matches between candidates and schools, strengthen hiring practices and ensure that all of the district’s principals can choose the best teachers for their classrooms from the strongest possible pool of candidates. The Teacher Talent Initiative services will include working directly with school leaders to strengthen their staffing approaches, market their schools to high-quality teacher candidates and identify teacher vacancies earlier in the school year. Through aggressive recruitment and selection, the Teacher Talent Initiative will amass a large, high-quality pool of teacher applicants – both traditionally certified and alternate route candidates – from which principals can hire the best who most closely fit school needs.

Role and Responsibilities

The Operations Assistant will provide support for the Operations and Communications teams, enabling them to meet ambitious process time goals and provide essential office support to the MTTI staffing and recruitment/selection teams.  The Operations Assistant is a part-time, 25-30 hour/week position beginning immediately with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2013. 

Specifically, the Operations Assistant will:

•           Process and file candidate documents

•           Complete data entry

•           Communicate with candidates via email, phone and in-person

•           Provide program information and answer questions about processes and eligibility

•           Assist with program related administrative processes

The Operations Assistant will report directly to the Operations Manager on the Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative team.

  5. Ability to use email and other correspondence tools to communicate with clients and partners
  6. Ability to support recognition events and presentations
  7. Proficiency with communication systems such as telephone, fax, Microsoft Office programs, and database systems
  8. Ability to type 45 words per minute and operate a 10-key calculator
  9. Ability to organize material and communicate effectively

Essential functions and responsibilities

  1. Provide support for Senior Companion program staff
  2. Support pre-screening and interviewing processes for the Senior Companion program
  3. Coordinate ordering, auditing, inventorying, tracking, distributing, and reporting for volunteer meals
  4. Enter volunteer applications in The Raiser’s Edge for the Senior Companion program
  5. Support the program’s paycheck process by alphabetizing and inventorying checks, preparing and photocopying timesheets, and preparing a monthly communication
  6. Maintain active and inactive files of all program participants
  7. Answer telephone calls in a pleasant manner
