POSITION: ZONE SUPERVISOR – (1 Opening) ANNUAL SALARY: $37,939.20 – 57,283.20; BI-WEEKLY: $1,459.20 – $2,203.20 Public Works/Solid Waste Maintenance/Bellevue J.O. #13-204
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of an area manager in the Solid Waste Bureau within the Public Works Division. Responsible for the supervision of workers, within assigned zone, engaged in collecting garbage and other refuse and transporting refuse to disposal area according to scheduled collection times: Schedules crews; adjusts work schedules and routes to meet work demands; inspects vehicles, substitutes vehicles needing repairs and prepares work order for maintenance required; travels crew route to inspect completion of work assignments; investigates and resolves citizen complaints and requests and notifies area manager of action taken; interprets policies to workers; takes disciplinary action according to established practices; confers with workers’ representatives to resolve grievances; and may assist in performing task of subordinates when situation demands it.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Requires ability to lift carts and dump into truck and operate trucks such as rear-end loaders and open-bed.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions, fumes, and odors. Must arrive at central office in time to have crews prepared to start routes by 7:00 a.m. Involves contact with staff, citizens, and union representatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation and six (6) years experience in a management or supervisory capacity in a government, environmental, or industrial/construction environment preferably with one (1) of the six (6) years in solid waste management; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have a valid Commercial “B” Tennessee Driver’s License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules. PROOF OF LICENSE REQUIRED.
