MAP is open to 9-12 grade students who are residents of the city of Memphis in one of the seven city council districts. Participants must be able to work in a team environment, contribute to a positive learning atmosphere and possess the ability to work independently. Memphis Youth Ambassadors Program – Accepting Applications through 2/28/14

MAYOR’S OFFICE OF YOUTH SERVICES TO ACCEPT NEW YOUTH AMBASSADORS

MEMPHIS, TN-Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. and the City of Memphis Office of Youth Services Memphis Ambassadors Program (MAP) announce the official new applicant enrollment period for students entering the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades during the fall of 2014. Applicants must complete the online application during the application period from January 1st – February 28th. Using a random computer-based lottery process, applicants will be selected by Memphis City Council Districts and given a rank. The highest ranking applicants per City Council District will be invited to an interview. Interviews will take place in March. More information http://www.cityofmemphisyouth.org/map.html.

The Memphis Ambassador’s Program (MAP) is a year-round enrichment program that targets area youth in grades 10, 11 and 12. MAP integrates community, business and neighborhood alliances and provides a curriculum based on four core values: Education, Health, Civic and Social Responsibility and Employability. The applicants are chosen from all 7 Memphis City Council Districts. The program operattes out of 8 community sites: Raleigh Community Center, Hickory Hill Community Center, Whitehaven Community Center, Glenview Community Center, Gaisman Community Center, Westwood Community Center, Bickford Community Center and Soulsville Towne Center.

Memphis Urban League accepting applications for Summer Youth Employment

The Memphis Urban League is currently accepting applications for summer employment for youth 16 and 17 years of age.

The Memphis Urban League will provide job readiness that will benefit participants for a lifetime.

Spaces are limited and time is of the essence.

Those interested can pick up application packets at the Memphis Urban League, M-F 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The deadline for completing the application is March 22, 2013.

City of Memphis Youth Ambassadors Program is a year-round enrichment program that targets area youth in grades 10, 11 and 12. MAP operates in nine sites covering the seven Memphis City Council Districts. Each site will be supported by a community cluster. Each cluster will include: Faith-based institutions, businesses, schools, neighborhood organizations, non-profits, government agencies, parents and volunteers. MAP participants are paid a quarterly stipend based on participation and attendance.

Selection Process

  1. Applicants must complete an online application (Jan. 15 – Feb. 28, 2013).
  2. Apply Online www.cityofmemphis.org/careers    
  3. Using a random computer-based lottery process, applicants will be randomly selected by City Council Districts, and given a rank in early March.
  4. The highest ranking applicants per City Council District will be invited to an interview. At which time, he or she (along with a parent) will provide proof of Memphis residency, sign a program commitment letter and other applicable paperwork. Interviews will occur during the month of April.

Summer Law Intern Program for High School Students

HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER LAW INTERN PROGRAM

Sponsored by the Memphis Bar Association Diversity Committee Program

Description: The High School Summer Law Intern Program exposes local minority high school students to legal workplaces as summer interns. Interns will get personal experience in the daily legal workplace of private law firms, corporate law divisions or governmental law offices. Each participating workplace will provide a mentor to the intern, who will assign them duties and assist them in gaining a better understanding of the practice of law.

Duties: Interns may be assigned clerical duties (filing, running, photocopying, etc.) but the participating workplaces are asked to provide them with a perspective of the legal practice in Memphis by a) accompanying lawyers to court; b) assisting lawyers in case preparation; c) observing the negotiation or closing of a business transaction, etc. Group Activities: There will be group activities for all interns to learn more about the legal system and the varieties of legal practice in Memphis.

Qualifications: Interns must be minority high school students in good standing who will begin their junior or senior year of in August 2009 and must be residents of Shelby County. Applicants previously accepted into the program are not eligible. Internships are for a period of 4 weeks, June 1-June 26. Interns must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Upon successful completion of the internship, each intern will receive a $500 stipend. The particular days and times an intern works each week will be determined by the workplace and the intern.

Applications received without your and your parent’s or guardian’s signature and/or without a letter of reference will not be accepted. All information disclosed on the application will be kept confidential. Applicant interviews will be scheduled in March/April 2009.
