Job Summary/Basic Function Analyzes, implements and integrates major centrally managed systems software projects. Provides technical assistance to other computer specialists performing technical systems support activities involving operating systems software.

This is second in a series of two classifications and is distinguished from Systems Administrator I in that incumbents have in-depth technical expertise in a broad variety of systems.  

Minimum Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a related field and at least four years of experience in systems management or programming in a multi-user environment or equivalent related education and experience.  
Special Conditions Act as team leader for projects and activities associated with infrastructure support, including:

Server administration and management, including architecture and security

Storage administration and management, including architecture and security

Enterprise email administration and management

Disaster recovery administration and management

Possess server administration, management, and security expertise to act as primary architect for core infrastructure support activities

Possess technical and interpersonal skills to manage institutional Service Level Agreements and vendor relationships and contracts, including performance metrics.

Possess an intimate, working knowledge of Active Directory, PowerShell and bare-metal restores

Act as a point of contact for local support providers (LSPs)

Assist in the development of GPOs and scripts for centralized management and configuration

Job Purpose
Analyzes, implements and integrates major centrally managed systems software projects. Provides technical assistance to other computer specialists performing technical systems support activities involving operating systems software. This is second in a series of two classifications and is distinguished from Systems Administrator I in that incumbents have in-depth technical expertise in a broad variety of systems.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Coordinates maintenance or developmental projects for operating systems or related software to include installations of new software or equipment, modifications or system software fixes.
Performs capacity planning and resource allocation for all University systems.
Analyzes and writes specifications for possible improvements of operating system software; designs, develops or recommends new or revised systems or system utilities as necessary.
Prescribes system backup procedures and designs and implements recovery policies in the event of destruction of all or part of the operating system or other system components.
Analyzes and prepares documentation concerning the adaptation of complex software systems and processes to the computing equipment.
Coordinates with computer users to provide information about system capabilities and to recommend changes in procedures or other solutions to improve efficiency and resolve problems.
Revises, enhances, updates and installs vendor supplied systems software components to optimize performance of the computer systems.
Provides technical assistance and training to all appropriate computer personnel on hardware/software features associated with the computer installation, operation and maintenance.
Creates and maintains individual client computer access accounts.
Diagnoses operating systems software/hardware failures by reviewing system logs, dumps and other information from users or technical personnel; confers with vendors; identifies and/or develops solutions.
Maintains knowledge of current and emerging systems technologies and their application to University systems.

Provides technical skills to enable the use of identity management related technologies and other new technologies; collaborates with other Information Technology units in ongoing design, development, and deployment of middleware technologies.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Works with technical support staff (on and off site) on identity management related technologies, including the use, implementation, maintenance, support, etc.
Collaborates in on-going design, development, and deployment of on-line directory and security systems and other middleware technologies related to Internet 2.
Documents findings, recommends solutions, and serves on ad hoc teams and work groups.
Diagnoses and resolves any technical issues regarding identity management or related technologies.
