Operations Assistant Job Opening with Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative

Operations Assistant – Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative

Memphis, TN

TNTP seeks a part-time Operations Assistant for the Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative (MTTI).  The Operations Assistant will be a TNTP employee, based at the Memphis City Schools Board of Education.  The position is available immediately.

Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative

Teachers are the most powerful resource a school has to raise student achievement. Hiring decisions need to be driven by the imperative to help schools build the most effective instructional teams possible. That requires matching a highly vetted and screened pool of teacher applicants with school leaders who have been trained to hire teachers who are the best fit for the needs of their students. We will implement a start-to-finish teacher pipeline solution that is year-round and tied to results. Specifically, the Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative (MTTI) will collaborate with Memphis City Schools (MCS) and Shelby County Schools (SCS) to supply high-quality teachers, support effective matches between candidates and schools, strengthen hiring practices and ensure that all of the district’s principals can choose the best teachers for their classrooms from the strongest possible pool of candidates. The Teacher Talent Initiative services will include working directly with school leaders to strengthen their staffing approaches, market their schools to high-quality teacher candidates and identify teacher vacancies earlier in the school year. Through aggressive recruitment and selection, the Teacher Talent Initiative will amass a large, high-quality pool of teacher applicants – both traditionally certified and alternate route candidates – from which principals can hire the best who most closely fit school needs.

Role and Responsibilities

The Operations Assistant will provide support for the Operations and Communications teams, enabling them to meet ambitious process time goals and provide essential office support to the MTTI staffing and recruitment/selection teams.  The Operations Assistant is a part-time, 25-30 hour/week position beginning immediately with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2013.

Specifically, the Operations Assistant will:

•           Process and file candidate documents

•           Complete data entry

•           Communicate with candidates via email, phone and in-person

•           Provide program information and answer questions about processes and eligibility

•           Assist with program related administrative processes

The Operations Assistant will report directly to the Operations Manager on the Memphis Teacher Talent Initiative team.

Qualifications

We seek detail-oriented, independent and self-motivated candidates who thrive in a dynamic environment, believe deeply in TNTP’s mission and display a proven record of achievement in challenging situations. Successful candidates will also demonstrate:

•           Exceptional communication and writing skills

•           Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task

•           Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a busy environment

•           Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with team members, clients, teaching candidates and school leaders, while displaying a consistently high level of professionalism

•           Flexibility

•           The ability to simultaneously manage multiple, competing responsibilities

•           The ability to identify challenges and actively work to find solutions

•           Interest in or experience with non-profit or educational work (preferred)

Compensation

The pay for this position is $15.00/hour. We also offer a motivated team of colleagues and the opportunity to influence the direction of a growing, mission-driven organization that is committed to the success of our nation’s children.

To Apply

Please submit your resume and tailored cover letter online at: TNTP.org

We will review applications on a rolling basis so it is to your advantage to apply as soon as possible.  We will not consider applications without a cover letter tailored to this position. TNTP is committed to fostering and capitalizing on the diversity of our organization. We are an equal opportunity employer and seek individuals of all ethnic and racial backgrounds to apply to this position.

TNTP strives to end the injustice of educational inequality by providing excellent teachers to the students who need them most and by advancing policies and practices that ensure effective teaching in every classroom. A national nonprofit organization founded by teachers, TNTP is driven by the knowledge that effective teachers have a greater impact on student achievement than any other school factor. In response, TNTP develops customized programs and policy interventions that enable education leaders to find, develop and keep great teachers. Since its inception in 1997, TNTP has recruited or trained approximately 49,000 teachers – mainly through its highly selective Teaching Fellows programs – benefiting an estimated 8 million students. TNTP has also released a series of acclaimed studies of the policies and practices that affect the quality of the nation’s teacher workforce, including The Widget Effect (2009), Teacher Evaluation 2.0 (2010) and The Irreplaceables (2012). Today TNTP is active in more than 25 cities, including 10 of the nation’s 15 largest. For more information, please visit www.tntp.org.

    December 4th, 6:00pm to 7:00 pm

    Understanding the University/College Campus

Entering as a new student or returning as a prior student, it is often difficult to be successful if you do not understand how an institution of higher education operates, what resources are available to you, how to understand deadline dates and processes. This workshop will provide you with valuable information about the structure and operation of a campus. Who to see, what deadlines to know about, learning the “language” of higher education, seeking out resources are all a part of this presentation.

The workshop will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at
    Benjamin Hooks Central Library,
    3030 Poplar Ave, Memphis
    Meeting Room A
